Ok, I'm thinking of getting back to the gym and maybe getting a personal trainer for awhile to help me set up a new weight routine.

Here is my story: I used to be very involved at the gym. In my 20's I got up to a size 18 and was able to somehow find the will to lose it all doing weights, diet and cardio. This got me down to a size 2 in my 30's (due to the fact that I was boxing...so my weight was higher due to muscle, but my size was down). However, I developed sports related anemia and had to quit the boxing. Now I'm in my 40's and the last two years I've had to travel a lot and didn't keep a regular exercise schedule. The past few years I've been maintaining a size 10 and I really want to get down and maintain a size 6 or 8 because that seems to be where I feel the best. So that's about 15 to 20 lbs that I need to lose to get back on track.

I'm just having a hard time finding the mojo I had when in my 20's. What motivated me to lose the weight back then? What will help me get back on the wagon now? How will I make the time to work out, find the will to eat right, and find the energy to exercise?

I guess I'm hoping that by connecting with all of you that it will help my motivation and provide me with a sense of accountability! :)

So that's my story! I guess I'm ready to start a new chapter in my 40's and again take control of my habits and my body! Thanks for listening guys!

THe shred thread really keeps you honest - people notice when there is a blank in the chart! It's a pretty darned good motivator.
And once you get going, how you are looking and feeling will keep you going.
We'd love to have you join in!

Yes, Angela come on over, I am doing the chart this month and I can add you. There is lots of great advice over there as well. Many of the ladies are doing ChaLean or Turbo Jam workout videos, some of us are walkers, we have a few gym goers- all levels and activities.

Whatever you decide to do, just remember it all starts with baby-steps, just get up and do something, then that might lead to something else. I bet once you start your mojo will come back. I am turning 40 next year and one thing that has started me walking is watching my relatives and in-laws with some age related health issues suffer. I don't want to face those if I can prevent it, and I know that most of them are preventable. Well, that and I would really like to be 20 pounds lighter by my birthday!

On another note, dh's insurance went to a high deductible policy with an emphasis on preventative care. Knowing that money will come out of my pocket if I have any medical issues is motivating me to try and avoid them by making smarter choices and trying to have a healthier lifestyle.

I agree; it's never too late! Even if the official chart runs out of space for that month, we'll still keep you honest and we start fresh each month. We've been doing 30 days on, 4 or 5 days off. We exercise 6 days a week for 20+ minutes each day, encourage each other, praise each other, commiserate with each other when needed, etc. Some of us are there to lose weight, others are just there to tone muscles, build strength, and get healthier hearts and habits. Some walk, some jog, some ride bicycles (going places or stationary), some do exercise videos. We'd love to have you join us! It's often the reason I work out. If I didn't have to answer to these friends, if there wouldn't be a hole in my chart row, then I would often make excuses and not get the job done that day. It's an incredible motivator above and beyond "just getting healthier". I view it as having a friend who comes over each day and drags me to the exercise routine so I can't say "No, I don't want to do it today!" :)

Angela, I just started back to the gym and even though I am 44 in a college town, I am really enjoying it. I am doing the weight circuit which had zero dread factor for me. Cardio is another story, but I am determined to work my way up to a cycling class. :)

Yes, please add me to the chart! I guess I'll start with some cardio tomorrow...some time on the treadmill or a workout video. I hear you too about the preventable health issues. My hubby and I haven't had any health insurance for about the last 8 years. Since we're both getting older, we are doing our best to take care of the things we have in our control. Exercise and eating well need to be on the top of our list more than they have been, so I'm starting tomorrow! Yipee! Thanks ladies, I knew this would be the place to get motivation and support!

It is a good idea to go back to the gym.
It will help you to improve your fitness level and get a good body shape.
You should also do some cardio workout along with weight exercise for the better fitness results.
