The last day or so, whenever I try to do text in a work path, it does this. The workpath is only a rectangle, which I've done tons of times before with no issues. I took a screenie of the current layout I'm working on. I can "fix" it if I hit enter a bunch of times between lines but it's really annoying to do that. Basically, the second (and beyond) lines of text just layer over each other.

I'm using Photoshop CS5. Do any of you know what's going on? I'm guessing it's a setting issue but I have no idea which one it would be

Gosh, sorry Heather - that's frustrating. I work in PSE 6 and am no expert by any means, but since no one else has wandered by yet - here's what I'd do.
I looked at my text options on the tool bar on top and there is something called "leading" where you can set the leading, which apparently is the space between lines. I usually have mine on "auto" and then if you are typing in a size 14 font, it will give you that size space between the lines, etc. Sometines when I've wanted more space between lines, I've raised it.
Could that be your problem? I don't know if it is and I'm sorry if it isn't helpful, but thought I'd give you something to try until someone who really knows and understands comes along. Good luck! :)

Yes, I think it's definitely a leading problem. You typically want your leading to be larger than your font size (there are exceptions, but they are rare). So if your font size is 14, for example, your leading can be 16 or 18 or larger, depending on the amount of space you want between your lines of text.

Thanks for asking the question, Heather!

There's a lot more explanation to it too, if you're really interested! LOL! The word "leading" is pronounced ledding, not leeding, by the way. It refers to long time ago when typesetters had to pour strips of molten lead in between the individual pieces of metal type. Sometimes, they would have more space and there would be more lead in between the rows and sometimes it would be less if they wanted the type closer together. :)

Wow, yes - I am always really interested and that's such cool info - thanks for writing it out. I always like to learn more - and the background is such a neat explanation.
Always VERY happy to hear any and all you'd like to explain -- thanks! :)

My first thought was the leading setting, too.
Sometimes my second line can't be seen at all...when I check my leading setting is some gigantic number. lol

<----- newspaper designer. ;)

ETA, that looks like the baby is a newspaper designer, but she's not. She's 2. I'm a newspaper designer, and yes, it's a leading issue, and yes to Cherise's explanation!

Me too, April - I was working for a printer here and heard it for the first time - I said, "what"? - and then it clicked - I was using the old Pagemaker at the time and thought I knew it all!

Isn't it fun to learn about all of these cool things!

Great explanations! I learned about leading a couple of years ago when I was working as a proof reader/copy editor for a music publishing company. But now that I'm working in scrapping and PSE, it all makes so much more sense.
