Okay, this time I'm looking for a non-alcoholic cheese fondue recipe. I'm finding some things on the web...just wondered if anyone has one that they use and can "vouch" for.

Thanks.
:)

Sorry, I go to The Melting Pot restaurant for my fondue needs...and usually have them put in the alcohol :).

I don't have a recipe without the beer in it but I'd be happy to share with you if you just want to leave the beer out, Char............

Well, after looking around ( a lot lol) I'm gonna try one that calls for hard cider...but use regular apple cider. In the reviews, some others had substituted that and liked it.

Sounds like a good plan!
We went to a fondue restaurant once (50 minutes from here) and liked it, but they closed. I had no idea cheese fondue usually has alcohol in it. You learn something every day...

It usually does, but the alcohol should cook out of it. Using cider might make it a little sweeter, but it will probably be yummy!

Well...I guess I'm just not very "cultured." lol

The recipe I used had Gruyere and New York yellow cheddar. That Gruyere is some strong (sort of stinky, to me) cheese. It wasn't horrible...and obviously plenty of people would like it (or why else would they make that kind of cheese?). Rich didn't complain. lol

I saw another recipe that used milk as the liquid and cheddar cheese (and apple cider, dijon mustard, flour, salt, & pepper.) I have a feeling that I'd like that one better. No "fancy" cheese in it. lol

I need to investigate the white-ish cheese in the mexican restaurants. I could go for a version of that!

By the way...the fondue pot was a Christmas gift from Rich to me. :)
It arrived this morning by super-early mail delivery. I want to use it Christmas Eve...so I wanted to try some recipes before then.
I didn't tell Rich what we were having tonight. When he came in and saw the table...with the fondue & dipping goodies...he said, "Is this legal?" lol He was referring to the Christmas gift being used. lol

FYI...for dipping, I roasted tiny, yellow, halved potatoes, halved (some quartered) mushrooms, and halved brussel sprouts in olive oil, salt, and pepper. And we had warm lil' smokies (tiny sausages) and chunks of french bread.

ROTFL! You tell him my husband and I have a rich history of giving each other early gifts for almost every gift-giving occasion:) In fact before kids, we started a tradition where we gave each other our gifts at midnight on Christmas Eve. That fell by the wayside with kids, b/c at midnight on Christmas Eve we are wrapping presents and assembling things under the tree;)

lol
He wasn't actually bothered...I think he was surprised to see it already in use, though. lol I think I'll wrap up the empty box and put it under the tree.

Charlene, the cheese they use in a lot of Mexican food is Monterey Jack - a very mild cheese. Often they'll mix it with cheddar.

Oh, and you can substitute grape juice for wine in recipes too. You could add a tiny bit of wine vinegar to cut the sweetness if you wanted to.

April...you are a "Jill of all trades." I think you could have a Martha Stewart type of show. (I'd certainly watch it.) lol

I'll add your tips to my "fondue" document. :disappearing-smilie:

A friend makes very good fondue, and she uses a Swiss type cheese for the bulk of it.

Chocolate fondue for dessert is always a winner!
