Posted this as a reply in another thread so thought i would share incase other users could benifit.

What I did with picasa as an example is associate all PNG files with adobe photoshop cs5 so within picasa I just open with external editor (shift, command, O) and it opens in ps without all the dragging.

I hae the external editor configured on my Wacom pen tablet as a shortcut in picasa so it's even easier.

On the Mac - open finder, grab a PNG and click get info, half way down pick ps as the editor and check the box to associate ALL files.
Keep in mind on the Mac it's per file association so if one fails to open get info and re-flag it with PS

Hope that helps someone out.

I'll try to explain, I use picasa to manage and view all my paper, and graphics. When I find one I like I open with external editor which is "preview" on a Mac probably pic viewer on a pc. So instead associate the PNG files with photoshop so they open straight into PS instead of dragging or copying.

Yes, if you open Windows Explorer and then Tools Options and on the file association tabe associate PNG with PS and apply the changes (Sorry I don't have a PC in front of me to be 100% on the menu options). The shortcut in Picasa should be the same for windows and mac.

I was doing it this way as well but then I found out if I " place" the file from within photoshop the designers name shows up in the layer and it is easier to give credit to the designers when I want to share in the gallery.
