Happy anniversary Sara!! I'll be thinking of you with your upcoming surgery (it's hard to be "down" when we know family members are relying on us for emotional as well as physical (ie. laundry, lol) support)
Tiza, lol, I was THINKING you were in Push month, but didn't want to argue, lol.

I did my post-program fit test today and was pleased with my results!

Yeah, Shari corrected me on Facebook. It's hard to keep track, even with a printed schedule in front of my face. It became habit to talk about Burn Circuits.

So Tiza...do I need to come kick your behind in gear???? Sorry you are struggling...I think trying to do both workouts today was TOO much!! I've had a few days where my back has bothered me, but after a good night of sleep, it was usually feel good enough to work out. Sounds like some yoga, a hot bubble bath and a glass of wine might be helpful!! Tomorrow is a new day....

I'm sure I'd be more likely to push through if I was working out with someone rather than by myself.

My heart is just not into these workouts anymore. I tried doing Burn Intervals today on Laylee's low-intensity level. By the 8-minute mark, I was sore and tired and cursing up a storm. By the halfway point, I stopped the DVD and quit and punched my closet door. I don't if I'm just having a bad week, or I'm moody from hormones, or I'm mad that I had NO physical results after the whole first month, or I'm already bored with this program, or a combination of all of those. Even telling myself that Conda & Angie & Sandi & everyone else is pushing through these workouts isn't motivating me. I feel like such a failure.

I can relate, Tiza. I've had "off" days or even an "off" week. The worst is when I have an "off" competition day (UGLY!) It happens when something is out of balance in my routine-like amount of rest, water intake, protein/carb/fat ratios, caloric intake, sodium levels, hormone levels, stress, depression. You are not a failure. You work hard everyday to do something healthy for yourself. That's not easy to do, and it doesn't usually happen without some struggles along the way. The good news...you can get through it. And we are here to support you! So give yourself a break, and when you're ready, drop it like it's hot, and move on to a happier you! And if you need any assistance with switching up your routine, I'm happy to help. Hang in there!

Oh Sara...been there, that's another thing they fixed when they took out my gallbladder. The recovery for that was a bit longer then the gallbladder. I couldn't lift anything over 10lbs for 2 weeks then when I went back to see him he gave me the ok to up it a bit...but I was still confined to nothing over 20lbs for another week. It was kind of nice having that time off...but the worst part was grocery shopping. Since I couldn't lift the bags I had to take the boys with me. That meant my grocery bill hit the roof for those 3 weeks...as all 3 of my "boys" (yes, husband included) are the worst to take the the store with you. LOL

You are so NOT a failure, Tiza! We all have these bad days and weeks - don't beat yourelf up too much about it - hey, you're already in those smaller size jeans - what a great reward for all the hard work you've done!

I'm rooting for you!

Thank you, Angie - I know I will be irritable when I have to be a couch potato after the surgery - I have to say though that Rich is the kindest, sweetest guy ever when he knows I am just not able to do something - just hope he can come up with something better than cottage cheese and tomatoes (a fav of mine) for me to eat while I'm recovering! That and Stouffer's are his idea of meals when I don't feel well - he does try.

LOL - i can give Rich a list for the grocery story and say "now don't buy anything else other than what's on the list" and he comes home with more things than I have cabinets in which to store them - he calls them all staples! LOL

I got Friday's workout done.

Go, Sandi! You can do it!

Sara, happy anniversary! I bet you celebrated lots of events on another day in the years Rich was in the Air Force. He'll make it just as special - maybe you can consider it spreading out the celebration.

As to the hernia repair, Michel has had something like 4 of them. Just follow doctor's orders during your recovery, and you'll be fine. It's nothing like the ankle surgery you had. But don't be tempted to do anything you're not supposed to.

Tiza, hang in there. This too shall pass. You are NOT a failure. Look at how far you have come. But it sounds like your body has been trying to tell you something. Sending virtual hugs your way.

Tiza-I've been thinking...

1. Would there possibly someone you know locally that would work out with you? Maybe someone at work?
2. Maybe there is a local gym that does CE and you could hook up with them? (I realize the timing issue possible with public transportation but maybe you could figure something out)
3. I have times in this journey that I don't see numbers budge and it is sooo frustrating. I try to focus an the activity (both physical and food choices) and know that if I am doing those that the numbers will follow.
4. People are noticing your weight loss AND you are in some of those smaller skinny jeans. WOO HOO!!!

You can do it. I know you can! We are all here for you.

Tiza, sending hugs and hoping you break out of your funk soon. With the busy-ness of the last few weeks I think it is natural to feel some frustration as everyone's routines tend to get thrown off during the holidays. Maybe a little break is what you need to get ready for the next round and find your motivation.

I had been having some slight pain in my lower groin area and since it was just an ache mostly, ignored it - til today when It became so painfrul that I went to see my doc.I was not happy with her diagnosis as it appears that I have a hernia now and am seeing a surgeon as soon as they get the referral - she did a thorough exam, felt the "hole" in that area and told me not to do anything more strenuous - I can ride the bike for short periods but not for my usual half hour and I can walk but not run. Her consult with the surgeon confirmed that it was a hernia and she said that it will require surgery to repair it. So, I'm really bummed out now - didn't need this with everything else going on right now with Christopher - I needed to be strong and able to help him manage his emotional issues and just the thought of surgery has made me a crazy person. Ever since I had the very serious surgery on my ankle requiring a muscle graft taken from my back, I have prayed that I would never have surgery again and I am just plain scared of this upcoming surgery.

So, I'll do the best I can - and as much as I can so don't count me out just yet please. Doc said surgery would probably be scheduled within a week and I am having my own little meltdown right now.

The gnood news is that I will be able to spend more time on the computer while recovering and more good news in that I can't lift anything heavy (like a llaundry basket) up from the laundry room - ah, the sacrifices - the bad news is that Rich is going to have to carry the load for me while I recover! Poor guy - the guilt I'm feeling is awful - he just can't work and do everything around here too, but what is, is...........

And today is our 45th wedding anniversary - Rich sent me a huge bouquet of roses and it was such a surprise and I was tickled to death.

So, I'm going to try and do what I can so I can still be a part of the Shred.

Not giving up on you Sara!! I am sure you will be back up and on your feet before you realize it. If you get frustrated about not doing your excercise in the 30 minutes blocks you are used to, how about 3 ten minutes blocks throughout the day-once you have the dr's okay, of course!!

I have been taking short walks with the dog, but we have been in and out of town, visiting relatives. A much different holiday than I am used to, after being by ourselves in California the last 8 years!

I have been trying to take this couple of weeks to think about what I want out of my excercise program and what I know I would stick to and be able to do without beating myself up with guilt about not "doing enough." I am really trying to focus long term and see this as a lifetime change.

And then of course AFTER the surgery, I won't really have a choice - But, it's all good - it will be fine! - "she says as her hands are shaking just thinking about the anesthesia part"! LOL

Tiza, didn't you do TWO workouts yesterday? On the rare occasion I do two hard workouts in a day, I tend to feel more "Miss Cranky Pants" and just plain tired and worn out when I'm done - it takes a lot out of a person. I'm hoping that's much of what was going on with you yesterday and that you are feeling more of your spunky self this morning. *hugs*

I know it's very discouraging to want certain results and not get them, and constantly be wishing to do something other than exercise. It's a blessing to me that once I get started, I actually enjoy it (most of the time anyway). But I know there are many people out there who want to be motivated, try to be motivated, and no matter what they try, they just hate the process of exercising. I can think of a local friend who I won't name b/c she does actually log on to SG once in a blue moon:)

You still really enjoy the taiko, right? I see a trend here - you are happiest when you have someone/a group to work out with. Do you have any local friends who have an exercise routine? Could you coerce any of them into doing CE with you at your place or theirs (if there's enough room - I'm not sure I could invite a friend over here for some of the workouts!)

And even though those darned inches are not coming off yet, your heart is stronger, your health is better, and that's something that cannot be readily measured with a tape measure. I know the pounds keep dropping slowly, and people have noticed that, and you are in smaller jeans so that's also progress! One last thought: Jan Hicks used to tell people that tape measures can be unreliable - even if you are always measuring, for example, right at the belly button, what if the tape measure sagged down in the back instead of being completely horizontal like last time. You may have lost an inch here and there and the measuring was just off.

I found this in a book I had been gifted with this mroning and thought it was the perfect way to say thank you to all of our Shredder Friends who support us on a daily, if not hourly basis some days - they listen, they care, they advise, and they praise and don't we all need that just to keep us going with this.

Maybe this could be our Shredder Creed!

GOAL!

You're such a good influence on me.

You're like my coach,
my cheerleader,
my marching band
all rolled into one person.

Your confidence in me
gives me confidence in me.

I can never fail
with you in my corner.
I go for the goal
'cause you've got my back.
I give it all I've got
because you would expect nothing less.

Having you as my friend makes me a winner.

The book is called "Friends" by BJ Gallagher and it's a wonderful read and so appropriate in so many aspects of our lives!

As the author says in his book, As BJ says, "...the heart is where we hold our friends - like precious gems in a jewel box."

So, to all my shredder friends (and non shredder friends too), THANK YOU! Thank you for keeping me honest, for motivating me, and thank you for being the voice I know I will always be here on this thread for me when I'm feeling not so motivated.

:bighug:

Now, THAT'S exactly what a good friend says, Cheri - this should cheer our Tiza up for sure! I love the support here!

Yes, I tried doing 2 workouts yesterday to make up for my missed days, but only made it through half of each one. Since the lifting one (Push2) was so difficult physically/mentally for me, I thought the intense cardio of Burn Intervals would be enough to pull me out of my funk. But it just made me feel worse, even though I was following at Laylee's level. I couldnt even get through all of Ab Burner, and that is only 10 minutes. MY heart/mind just wasn't into any form of physical activity yesterday. And today I don't feel much better. I might put the CE program aside for a few days (or a week) and then restart Push phase when I feel refreshed and remotivated.

Today I woke up with tons of muscle aches & pains all over my body. Soaked in a hot tub for about 5 minutes, which is about how long it took the hot water to turn to cold in my chilly, drafty, ceramic tile bathroom. I did some stretches while I watch TV, but I still ache. Everywhere.

I do still enjoy taiko. I'm counting down the days until classes begin again on the 8th. :) There are only 15 students signed up for the class this session.... a smaller class size means fewer jumping jacks & arm circles!! Yay!

I don't really have any friends nearby who do much exercising. I have one colleague who spends an hour or two every day at her gym working out or taking classes....however, we live at opposite sides of the St. Louis suburbs, and it wouldn't be convenient to meet up. I don't have the space for 2 people to work out here, and there are no buses that go out as far as she lives. Plus I would be too intimidated working out with her, because she is very thin and fit.

Saturday....Two carloads of stuff moved out of old house and into new house. And lots of stuff picked up, packed, boxes moved around, etc. Yeah, I'm counting it as a workout as I sort of collapsed into a puddle of fatigue at the end of the day. More of the same today too. LOL. And tomorrow and Tuesday as well.

Last night, mom & I played "ABBA You Can Dance" on the Wii - we did about 6 songs. Maybe 20-30 minutes? After the first one, we were huffing & puffing & sweating & laughing our booties off. Lots of fun and exercise! :)

Sounds like fun! My dd does Dance Dance Revolution in PE on Fridays and loves it. We have a Wii, maybe I should look into ABBA!
