I have a round shape that I want it to look like it is stitched on. Is there a way to take straight stitches and have them go in a circle?

I have PSE 8 and CS4...

It isn't easy to do it in PSE 8, but it is in CS4.

Using the Custom Shape tool, choose the Ellipse option. Along the top navigation bar, you'll have the option to use a fill with the circle or a path. The path one is the second to the left option. Choose that.

Then draw out your circle on your canvas.

Then choose the stitches brush you wish to use. Make sure you decide what size you wish the brush to brush at and how far apart you wish the stitches to be.

Then click on the Paths tab, located in the same area as the Layers Tab. (It goes Layers, Channels, Paths.)

Right-click on the path layer you'll see. One of the options is to stroke the path.

Have fun!

I'm sure there may be other ways, but the way I do stitching in a circle (using PSE 9) is with these two products together:

Dynamic Brush Set: Stitching 6401

ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Edge It PSE 5001
