Is it possible to convert the file type of several files at once?

After taking photos, I put all the good ones through Elements to spruce them up and then save them as TIFFs. However, now I want to upload these same edited photos to an online printing website so that my mom can order copies. The problem is, the website will only upload JPGs, not TIFFs.

So, my question is: can I take my TIFFs and convert them all to JPGs at once, and then (hopefully) have the same photos on my computer twice, once as each file type? Or do I have to open each one individually and do a "Save as" in order to convert them?

(My software is PSE4)

I use PSE3 not 4 but one question I have for you is "Why do you save them as .tff and not keep them as .jpg"? I know this doesn't answer the questions but you would'nt need to convert back if you kept them in .jpg format.......

I understood your question and I know how to do it with PSP, it's called Batch Process. I just didn't know if PSE had this option or not. If you don't see any batch process in it, I know there's a bunch of free batch processing programs out there, of course, can't think of any names at the moment. But if you do a search I'm sure they'll come up.

Thanks for responding, guys.

The reason I save my files as TIFF is that I do a lot of editing and tweaking in my photos and I was told that if you continue to save files as JPEGs, it compresses the files and you lose a little more detail each time. Then, if you edit and save several times, eventually the quality loss becomes obvious.

Thanks for the suggestion, Lori, I will have to try to find some of that software. If anyone knows any good ones, or knows how to do it PSE4, please let me know. Thanks!

If anyone else is interested in doing a batch conversion of several files at once, the software I found is located here: XNView Freeware .

Besides converting the file type, it also allows you to edit several photos all at once with things like converting to B&W or sepia, resizing, rotating, adding text, etc, etc.... (it has a long list of effects you can add)

oh thanks. I have a bunch of jpgs (textures and stuff) that I want to use in PS, but they need to be in psd format.
I'll have to see if this will work for me too.

I realize this topic is really old, but thought I'd go ahead and post info on how to batch process files in PSE5 just in case they might be of use to someone.

Batch Processing in PSE5

Load all your PSDs into a single folder (if they're not already)

Open Photoshop Elements

Click File>Process Multiple Files...

Process from: Folder
(Browse to where all the PSDs are)

Destination: Folder
(Browse to the folder that you want all the jpgs to wind up in)

Leave the middle two sections alone for now, and at the bottom "File Type" section, click the "Convert to " toggle on, and choose a quality : JPG Max/High/Medium/Low -

Thats all there is to it. You can also do batch resizing the same way. So if your layouts are 12x12 and you are wanting to print at 8x8 you can simply resize an entire file at once. In both cases, your orginals will left untouched.

I can change extension on files in PSPX, just by changing the box for extensions to a whole list of extensions. PSP's default is pspimage, these can't be posted on web sites. I did find some coversion programs, pdf to image, image to pdf, converting a doc file. Anyone can email me if you want to know more.

You can download a wonderful freebie graphics reader called Xnview and do a batch convert from within that program. I found some cute graphics on the net that needed to be converted so my PSP X could work with them, and all that had to be done was to change the extention. But I sure didn't want to do that one graphic at a time. Xnview took care of the whole enchilada.
