Ok firstly I'm not new but today I feel like it!!
I am using PSE 9
I was in the middle of scraplifting something and adding elements and my square that goes around any item you can minipulize(sp?)
when the curser is in curser mode and you click on any item . Say a pic and you want to enlarge it you would click on the pick and then shift + click a corner and enlarge or shrink. Well those lines have disappeared. They were working a second ago and now :tinkerbell: Poof gone!! I'm freaking out  because I"m only partly done and I need to manipulate a bunch of things to fit onto my page!!

Any help would be welcome!!!! :thanks: :please: :please: :please:

First off, take a deep breath.
You may need to take a break.
The obvious steps are, is the right layer highlighted? Is the move tool the one that is selected?
Some of the png files are quite a bit larger than you might expect, so the box might be farther away than you are looking.
Sometimes the boxes don't show very well on a light color paper.
I sometimes nudge the item with the arrow keys to get it to where I can grab it.
If this doesn't help, there's always the save and re-start PSE.

I use PSE9 too, and sometimes when I add text it doesn't show up in the text box. The reason is always that the text is too large to fit in the box. When I can't see the lines around my item, it's usually outside of the square. I would follow smiles instructions and see if that helps. If not, someone else will come along with the answer. Good luck.

Don't forget to breathe. Step back from the layout.

In addition to the things Gayle mentioned, you may want to check to be sure the Show Bounding Box is checked in the options menu. HTH

Hi - when this happens to me in PE6 - I click on the move tool (or whichever one is giving me the problem) and then there is a little arrow at the top left (next to "auto select layer")
Clicking on the arrow gives me a drop-down menu and two choices:
Reset tool and
Reset all tools

I click on "reset tool" because in every case so far for me, when something like that happens, it's because I've inadvertently clicked on something and changed a setting by mistake.
I don't know if your PE is the same, but I'd guess you have some sort of "reset tool" option.

Good luck and hope that helps! :)
(ps and I feel your pain and frustration!) :(

Those are all excellent suggestions, especially the "step back and take a deep breath" ones.

Hooray for Teecee, that's exactly what I was going to say (it happened to me once, and it was MADDENING trying to figure out what went wrong!)

Also, sometimes things get messed up when I accidentally hit my "caps lock" key. Brushes will not show as brushes, but as a small + sign. Frustrating until I figure out what I've done.

Just something else to keep in mind (and check) if you ever have anything strange occur. :)

That + sign with the brushes had me foxed for a long time. April set my on the right path there. I also always check the way Theresa (teecee) does. I think gremlins creep in and change our things in the night when we are sleeping. I know, I never touched the button. :disappearing-smilie:

Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to find. I still occasionally find that something isn't working right because the caps lock is on, and it takes a minute to realize what it is.

The brush changing to a + always drives me crazy. Especially when I'm using it as an eraser and the circle is gone. Never could figure out why that happens. Now I'll check to make sure the 'caps' lock is not on. That always seems to get in the way, doesn't it.

Belle, you are so right. There are lots of gremlins running around at night wreaking havoc wherever they go. And here I thought that they only visited my house. It's like when you straighten out all of the cables for your computer and then 'POOF' they are all tangled again. How does that happen?????

I did find the answer to the one sock problem. There are one legged aliens out there and they steal only one sock. Bwahahaha!
