After reading the newsletter around the first of the year, I decided to take Ro's idea of using google calendars to set some goals and started it immediately. I've used the color tags to show daily, monthly and annual goals as well as tasks that I need to do. I'm excited to say that it has been wonderful for me! I had been feeling so overwhelmed with all the things I had to do and yet when I had some time I couldn't seem to remember any of them. Now I can go to my list and pick something that will fit the time frame that I have. I don't always stick to that day's choices - if there is something I have listed for another day and I feel like doing it, then I pick that. I am slowly getting things done - not only little things but big projects. I don't feel so scattered any longer and if I feel like I haven't moved forward I can look back at all the projects I have crossed off. I've even gone so far as to list "take my meds" "eat breakfast" and "make lunch to take to work" - seems silly, but as someone who hits the floor running in the mornings I would often find myself heading off to work without eating breakfast or making plans for lunch - being a diabetic meant that was especially bad for me. Now I can open my calendar every morning and it's right there in my face! One whole month of not going without breakfast and not having to grab some junk for lunch! I'm so proud of myself!! I also set the goal of one hour of learning every weekday - right now I'm working on adobe illustrator.
The best part of the calendar is if I don't complete something I had set for that day then I can easily move it to the next. At first I struggled with feeling like I'd failed if I didn't accomplish everything on my daily list, but I've let that go and try to focus on all that I have done. It is a work in progress. I continually revamp and add new things as time goes on. I've set some annual goals that seem out of reach, but I do believe that putting them in writing gives me the ability to make them happen. So, thanks, Ro, for kicking my butt and getting me going on this!
