I have a much older hp model 7350 photosmart printer. I can print 8.5x 11, but everything comes out with a white border, which I do not want. I have emailed the company and searched customer service sites--Does anyone know if it is possible to turn off the borders?

also, IF you are printing your own layouts at home do you get this border, no matter what brand of printer?? I don't like it and will eventually get a new printer--IF I can print borderless.

Advice appreciated,
candyK

Hi Candy, I know I read somewhere that Ro's printer prints borderless if she creates at 8.5 x 11 and prints at that. It somehow recognizes and prints borderless. She has a Canon Pixma. I also have a Canon Pxma but can't seem to get it to print borderless. Maybe because mine is about 3 years old. Hope someone comes along and can help you as I will also learn something.. Good luck. Kay

HP printers are great at printing borderless. From HP's site, for the Photosmart 7350, here is:
Introduction
Borderless printing refers to the ability to print to the top and side edges of small paper such as that used to print photographs and cards. The HP Photosmart 7150, 7350, and 7550 printers have the ability for borderless printing.
Enabling the printer for borderless printing
Please ensure that the appropriate paper type and size has been selected in the printer properties by following the steps given below.
  • Click Start , Settings , and Printers .
  • Right-click the HP Photosmart Printer icon and select Properties .
  • Click Printing Preferences .
  • Click Layout .
  • Click the Borderless Printing button.
  • Select the appropriate paper size and paper type from the options provided in the borderless printing window.
  • Click OK then Apply .
  • Click OK to close the Window.
To find this, I went to the HP site, and selected Support, Photosmart 7350. The main support page for this printer is at: http://h10025.www1.h...=72886&x=0&y=0, and then I selected "How To," Print, Printing, How to Enable Borderless Printing.

Their site is large, but one of the reasons I love HP printers is that I can find lots of details like this on their site. Hope this helps!

It might be that the size Candy is wanting to print is the issue. The instructions say "ability to print to the top and side edges of small paper such as that used to print photographs and cards" so maybe it can do 4x6 or 5x7 borderless, but not 8 1/2 x 11.

Yep, Pat is correct - a printer can only print borderless if it was made to do so. AND it can only print borderless for the specific sizes the manufacturer set it up to do.

OK, I may have missed that earlier--my apologies. I did not find the printable margins online, so I struck out there, too.

The 7350 may be old enough that the ink cartridges won't track slightly past the edge, and therefore they won't try to print borderless 8.5x11. Sorry I didn't understand clearly.

My most recent HP color printer purchase, a Photosmart c6180 that was a couple of years old when I bought it on eBay two years ago prints 8.5x11 edge-to-edge prints beautifully.

I have had only HP printers, and both of them printed borderless. The one I have now will print 12 x 12 borderless, but I find I have to be very careful about loading the paper. Sometimes (actually most of the time) it leaves a tiny border at the bottom of the page (about 1/8 inch, but I can live with that. It is an HP Office Jet.

Thanks ladies. I'm considering a new printer-- plus with the sheet feeder scanner so I can scan my papers too. HPoffice jet pro 8600+ on sale at Costco.

Here is something I read once about printing borderless. When you print borderless, in order to do so, your print heads have to actually spread the ink past the edge of the paper and there is a sponge that absorbs the extra ink that is leaked past the paper. Due to this fact, I don't print borderless (although I have two printers capable of borderless printing). I make my design or picture the size of the paper, then select "fit to printable area". This does create a little white border, which sometimes I trim off or just leave on. I have gotten pretty immune to it. I would think doing this without a borderless printer would also help to create a smaller white area for you. Just a thought.
