I'v seen Carbonite advertised in the newsletter. If I use Carbonite to backup my scrapbook kits, can I use them straight from Carbonite.?

Hi. Most backup services, including Carbonite, just keep a mirror image of what you have on your drive. So, if you remove something from your drive, it won't be backed up by them. (I think they have it for a month after it leaves your drive, then it's gone from theirs, as well.) They don't store files for you. So, no, you don't use your supplies through them. It just gives you peace of mind that if your computer crashes, you'll be able to retrieve your files through them.

I hope my explanation makes sense. And if someone has more accurate info, I'm sure they'll post it.

I just back up on my EHD's - I've never used Carbonite but alot of members here do use it and like it. I like the EHD backup because then I can take it anywhere I go if I want to scrap and all my things are there!

Your explanation is perfect. So keep your files on your hard drive as well. Don't erase them and use your files from your hard drive not from Carbonite.

Thank you ladies. Your explanation is clear. I thought I would be able to use my kits when I travel without taking aEHD with me. Now I know. Thanks so much. ; )

Something that might work for you when you are traveling is Dropbox. It's a free program. I use it to share files between by desktop, laptop and iPadTouch. It does have limited space, so depending on how many supplies you own, you probably wouldn't be able to everything into Dropbox, but if you know there are a couple of kits or collections that you foresee using while you are traveling, that might work for you. Another option would be to put a fee collections on a flashdrive.

Another question-since Dropbox only takes 2GB (free version), if I downsize the objects in a scrapbooking kit, will it affect the quality of the final scrapped page? Hope this makes sense!!

You definitely don't want to reduce the resolution of the scrapbooking products so that the files are smaller. This will ultimately create a pix-ally looking layout. If you want sharp, crisp images (like you purchased) you need to keep the 300 dpi resolution.

Did that answer your question?

(If you are interested, you can purchase more storage space from Dropbox so you can store more data.)

I love Dropbox, too! It's so great for getting an image or a file from my home computer to my office, or my phone, or vice versa!
