Sometimes I read through things I think I already know about because experience has shown me that I never know ALL about anything and may find something new. Here is another example of that. Months ago, I actually wrote a tutorial just like Syndee's blending modes tutorial in today's newsletter, including my own samples of the various modes. However, thankfully I read through to the very end.

See, I switched from PC to iMac last May and one of the differences I experienced (and very much missed!) was that I could no longer scroll through the blend modes with the arrow keys, as I did on my PC. For almost a year I've been clicking on the down arrow to open the drop down box repeatedly to try various modes until I make up my mind. I guess I should have thought there might be another way to scroll through them and maybe I could have asked, but I'm grateful I read Syndee's tutorial today. I immediately tried it out, and yes, in PSE9 on an iMac, I can scroll through the blend modes by holding down Shift and hitting the plus/minus keys.

So much easier! Thank you Syndee, THANK YOU!!! (I use blend modes a lot.) Posted Image

You're right that little tip makes things so much easier.

In fact I loved the whole tutorial, it explained why I was getting the results I was. Now I understand how it works I will be using it a lot more.

Thanks SyndeePosted Image

Gosh, THANKS for the tip, Michele! WIth all the fuss about the NL - I haven't even gone to read it yet, as I wasn't expecting there to be much in it. Now I am SO excited! I've only ever worked on Mac, but was always frustrated I couldn't scroll through blending modes - especially as in SGs classes I'd learned that you could. I just figured it was a MAC thing so I'd do what you did -- repeatedly over and over and over, but what a drag.
Thanks for pointing this out - I'm excited and hope it works in PSE6! Off to look up the NL now!

And, thanks in advance Sydnee for the article!

Loved this article and I'm definitely copying and saving in my tips folder! It was basic and easy to understand and now I know why things work the way they do. I had always copied a photo and used the blending mode on the copy. But to see how it works by blending into the paper below it? Fabulous!!!!

I loved the article on blending modes too. I did what Syndee suggested, opened a page and photo and followed along and ended up with a very special layout about my mother who passed away last fall and my one year old grandson (who she never got to know because she was so sick by the time he was born). Plus I learned a whole lot about blending modes! Thanks again Syndee!

When I click on the link in the post above it doesn't work. Also the link appears at the beginning of the post instead of connected to the word Threads after your name. Tried to do it again and the same thing happened not sure what I am doing wrong. Sorry!

You might want to try following these instructions:

1. Go to the page you want to link to
2. Highlight the address in your browser window at the top of the page (With my browser, I only have to click once in the browser window and it highlights the address)
3. Press Ctrl+C (this will copy the address)
4. Go to your post and type the words you want to be the link and highlight them
5. Click on the insert link button (to the right of the smiley face)
6. A box will pop up – just press Ctrl+V (this will paste the address into the box)
7. Click on Insert Link at the bottom of that box that popped up.
You will see what looks like a bunch of gibberish in your post, but when you preview it you should just see your post with your link text underlined. If you hover your mouse over the underlined text, it should turn purple.
8. Finish typing your comment and click the Post button at the bottom of the page.

HTH - Let us know if you still need more help. :)
