My MIL has been fighting glioblastoma (an aggressive brain cancer) since July 2009. Recently she has decided to stop treatment and Hospice has entered into our lives. We would welcome prayers for Cheryl and the family in any capacity that you see fit. We've not traveled this road before, and are anxious about what's to come. My FIL is her 24/7 caregiver...pray for strength and patience for Dennis, courage and freedom from pain for Cheryl, guidance for me and DH as we try to explain this to our children DD 10, DS 9, DS 5.

Caring Bridge link if you want to read more. check out Sept 18, 2011 for some of her insights...she's an amazing woman of faith!

Thanks in advance for your prayers.

Prayers for all of you, especially Cheryl and Dennis. I'm so sorry you are all going through this. Hospice may be able to assist you in advance if you have questions about different ways you could present the news to your children. There is no one "right" way.

*hugs*

Praying for your MIL and the whole family. Hospice is such a big decision, and such a wonderful help for so many. I pray that you all may find comfort and support through this time. Cheri is right: there's no one "right" way to tell them. And with their ages, it might work to do them at different times. Thanks for sharing with us!

That is the same cancer my mother had. Your mother-in-law has really beaten the odds with it already. When my mother was diagnosed, she asked the Dr. the stats on his patients with it and 50% were gone in 6 months and the longest he'd had a patient survive was 3 years. I'll be praying for your family during this difficult time. :bighug:

Having been through almost the same thing 2 times in the last 2 yrs (first my MIL with breast cancer & last month my step-mom with an unknown illness that took her) I know the road ahead will be rough. I will keep you & the family in prayer. So sorry you are going through this. :(

I worked at a hospice for many years. I would really encourage you to get advice from your hospice workers about your children. Most hospices have very very good children's programs. I am very sorry to hear about your MIL's illness but glad hospice is there to help you and your family. My prayers are with you.

I will keep your family in my prayers.

We journeyed down that road with my mother in law several years ago. It was difficult at the time, but now I see that it gave her a chance to say goodbye to everyone she loved. We tried to keep things as pleasant as possible and I promised to help her stay pain-free (hospice will deliver pain meds on the weekend if necessary).

Her church may be able to offer some support. The church choir came to sing to my mother in law at her house.

I still miss her, though.

Keep us posted.
