If you recall, I had eye surgery just over a month ago (3/14) for cataract removal and a lens implant. I saw the doc the next morning, a week later, then two weeks later, and again this morning. He says it's healing perfectly, and that my vision in that eye is now 20/25! I was happy to be able to tell him that I could read the music on my music stand last night without even thinking twice about angling my head a certain way, or getting up close ... and he was so pleased. This was exactly the result we were hoping for. It's difficult to do my job as a choir director when I can't read the music in front of me.

We had thought maybe I could do the other eye this summer, but he said it's not ready yet. So he gave me a new glasses prescription for my left eye (even though I see fine with it as is) to help it work better together with my right eye. It's so odd to have my left eye be the dominant one now after all these years of wearing glasses and having my right eye do all the work.

Cross your fingers ... I got my new glasses January 21 and they (Lens Crafters) said that if I had my surgery done and came back within three months that they would replace the left lens at no charge. I have two days left, so I'm heading up there this afternoon.

Oh, and also? The eye doc doesn't need to see me for 6 more months! Thank you all so much for your prayers, encouragement, and good wishes.

That is wonderful news Becky! My dad had a similar surgery a few years back and he was ecstatic at how well he was able to see afterwards! Here's hoping and praying that you continue to improve and that your other eye can be done with no issues or delays!

I'm so glad you are seeing better and healing! I imagine it's hard to read music when you can't see it, lol!

That really is fantastic, Becky. That surgery is really miraculous. I had worn glasses since age 9, and now (just a few years later), I don't need them!

Great news, Becky. I'll have to have this done before long-not bad enough to operate yet. I hope you continue to heal well.

Update on the (not) free lens replacement! :D

So, there's really no such thing as "free". Well, it could have happened, but as is my usual luck, not for me. There's now such a huge discrepancy between the vision in each eye, they have to remake the right lens even though that prescription didn't change. It's an effect called "slab off" and it works to prism the way the eyes work together to make them ... well, work together! Instead of causing double vision like I got when they took the left lens out of my glasses. So, in a couple of weeks I'll have my new glasses and they have 250 dollars more of our money. *le sigh*

But I'm very pleased, and like Ann said - I've worn glasses since I was 11 (1966) and this past month of not really needing them? It's been miraculous!

sorry you need to pay for glasses that you thought would be free. Hopefully they will last you for awhile.

I am so glad to hear all is going well and certainly praying that all things (glasses in particular) will continue to do well. I am wondering about checking out corrective surgery. I see fine up close, reading is no problem and have glasses that correct distance and blend down to clear for reading. However, the music on my keyboard stand is right in the mid spot - tri-focal doesn't work, single lens works for music, but when I look up to follow worship leader, I can't see. Kind of in a quandary right now.

Ask about "mid-range" glasses? I know some friends that use them for computer work. Or maybe a pair of bifocals just for the church setting. Distance on top, and customized to the music rack on the bottom. *sigh*

Becky, this is wonderful news. I know this must be a relief for you. Waiting for the healing to take place after vision surgery is sometimes a slow, nerve-wracking process. I hope that all continues to go well for you.

The mid-range sound promising. Why can't my high dollar opthmologist think of that???
