Layer Styles In Pse 10--Defining?

I've been wondering this for a while now. Is there a way that I can go into my Layer Styles Palette, and, for instance, put all my resin and epoxy and glass styles, under a subheading of 'glass effects, or something like that? So that it would be the same was as when I select 'drop shadow', I get those effects in the palette. Right now I have to go to 'show all' and search thru all the styles thumbnails to find the one I want to use.

Hi Deb, yes, there is a way to categorize your styles. I had mine all categorized in PSE 7, but since I switched to PSE 9, I haven't done them. It's been quite some time since I did any categorizing, so right now I can't recall the steps. Here is some information posted by Barbara (BarbaraC1977) some time ago that may be helpful to you: Styles Info post #19 and #20 HTH

Well, I couldn't get it to work in PSE 10. If anyone has gotten it to work in that version, please let me know. I think I followed the steps exactly--so it may be something with the new version. (Or, it could be me!) Thanks!

I don't know if this is quite what you mean but if I use a certain style a lot I put it in my favorites. Go to Window>Favorites. The favorite box will show at the bottom of the Layers palette. You then go stand on the style you want and right click. Send to favorites. I have a few styles in there that I use in just about every layout. Another thing that I do, before I install my effects, I rename them. I put a 1 in front of eg. the shadows, 2 in front of the glitter and so on. In this way they will appear together and at the top. I tried to sort them the proper way but made an utter mess. This helps me from having to hunt all over for effects. HTH.

That's a really good idea Belle, I've done that for my supplies, never thought to do it with styles though.

I rename my ASL files and XML files to start with a ‘category’ (i.e. Glitter_, Distresd_, Metal_, Fabric_, Transprnt_, Actions4_, etc) and use Belle’s idea of starting with numbers for the ones I use constantly (1Shdws_, 2Blended_) so that they are always at the top of the list. I also separate out a few categories into two parts where they are ‘texture-only’ and ‘colored’ (Paper1_, Paper2_). And don’t forget to have a category for ‘Other’ or ‘Misc’. I also have one for ‘Mixed’ for those products that cross categories—which I VERY much dislike.
