After nearly three months of battle with my lower back and radiating leg pain, my physical therapy team and I decided it was time for an MRI and some more aggressive treatment. I have a herniated disc with some tears, and I'm enduring a slow healing process.

I really want to avoid surgery, but today I did receive the first of three cortizone injections at the cite. The injection was far less than pleasant, but twelve hours later I am PAIN FREE for the first time in almost three months. It isn't a long term solution, but should relieve the pain for long enough that I can make some real progress in physical therapy.

Thanks to all who offered up prayers on my behalf. I think that my highly qualified surgeon got some extra help from the Godly realm thanks to all of your prayers! I am so very honored to part of such a caring, generous, and faithful creative neighborhood. Thanks, friends!

Oh, those cortisone shots are terrible. I got one in my shoulder because of the tendonitis and nearly passed out. I'm glad that it is relieving the pain so quickly and so thoroughly for you. Extra prayers for continued healing! **hugs**

Oh, Jaymee - so very happy for you for a bit of relief. Although the shots are difficult - it's so hard to live with draining pain day in and day out.. Hard to focus, make decisions, PT, etc. But at any rate, for you and yoru sanity I am thrilled that you have a bit of respite here. Take care. Hugs to you...

I'm so glad you finally got a diagnosis, Jaymee. And it's wonderful that you are pain free! I hope that pain-free state lasts a LONG(!!!!) time, both for the therapy and for some peace.

I'm so glad the cortisone shot is helping with the pain. It's so good that you finally know the cause and that you can now do more with the physical therapy. I sure hope it can help you heal completely! Still praying you'll heal quickly and the pain will stay manageable. Gentle {{{hugs}}}!

I just had an MRI done for my back pain and radiating pain down my right leg. It's exactly what I knew it was, sciatica. My doctor also suggested the Cortisone shot and I said no thank you. I heard how painful they can be and also that they only work in about 25% of the cases. I'm going the natural route and found these herbs that I used years ago that helped me with the pain. I've been taking them now for a couple of weeks and can feel a difference already. I tried Physical Therapy years ago, and the pain only got worse. I left the therapists office one day and could barely walk. So much for PT.

I'm so glad that the Cortisone worked for you and that you are now pain free. Prayers will continue for you so that you remain pain free.

I'm so happy for you that the shot worked! Hope it's effects last a long long time! Don't overdo now - I know it must be tempting being pain free after such a long time. That's so wonderful that it worked; I have a little back pain once in awhile, so I can only imagine what it must be like to have it drag on like that. Hugs & take care.

I'm so glad you are getting some pain relief. The injection can be a bit rough, but cortizone can really help. I remember being at the orthopedic surgeon's office. He wanted to do surgery on my foot, and he joked to the nurse, "She thinks she's going to cure her Morton's Neuroma with a shot of cortizone." Well, I did! I got orthotics for my shoes and, many years later, my foot still feels fine.

Hopefully your PT will be easier now, and I will send up prayers for your healing.

I'm glad that you are feeling better and that the shot helped. Something similar happened to my husband a few years ago, although he had major problems with 2-3 disks. The back surgeons told him there was no option but surgery, because his disks were so bad. He ended up deciding to try a chiropractor that was known for doing remarkable things. He adjusted him almost daily for the first little bit, then every other day, then weekly, etc. He taught my husband the importance of hydration playing a huge role in taking care of his back, and had him do some physical therapy type back exercises. He got him walking again, avoiding surgery all together, and feeling great now. He get's adjusted only occasionally when he can tell that he is out, and is now really physically active. We swear by this chiropractor and are so glad we avoided a surgery that most likely wouldn't have solved his problem. Hopefully you will be able to feel better as back pain is miserable and so crippling.
