You lost me on the fist question: Give nine rules for the use of capital letters. But I did know the answers to question 7 under US History and some of the others, but not many. I'd still be in 1st grade, maybe.

I know this is American, but I believe it is similar to what my Great-Great-Grandparents had to do.

I got a First Class pass in grade 12 and I did not understand one word. My excuse is, I've forgotten everything I was taught and I'm not American. Posted Image

I probably could have answered SOME of these when I was in school, but I would fail miserably now. I think a lot of people back then dropped out of school to help support the family.

I think I'm bringing some of those math conversions out of the Victorian era for my physics students this fall! You know what their first question will be--
"Can we get to use a calculator???"

BTW--They'd do fine on the rest of the test, I'm sure--right after we answered the question, "Can I take out my SmartPhone?"

That would be followed by something like, "Wikipedia doesn't know what the heck orthography is. Can I text my grandma?"
Then, of course, "My grandma doesn't know what orthography is. She said to Google it."

And lastly, "How did you do on your eighth grade final, Mrs. Keith? Was President Lincoln in your class?"

Jaymee, you are so funny. I'm a grandma and I would tell them to 'google' it.

Or on the flip side, I wonder if they dropped out after 8th grade because they *couldn't* pass the 8th grade test! LOL

I've seen this before... and it always humbles me academically. (And challenges me to higher standards in how I teach my kiddo!)

Thanks for posting!
