It doesn't cost much to upgrade from 1TB to 2TB but I don't know if there is a need for it. Any thoughts on this?

If you are a picture and SG supplies collector the way I am, you'll be happy to have the extra TB. :)

I would place that in the "if you can afford more, get more" category. If it isn't much difference in price I would definitely get it :-) I can't believe how quickly my computer drive filled up.

I was also surprised at how fast my hard drive filled up lol. My desktop has 1 TB so I use the 2TB harddrive to back it up.
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was,the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child....

How much data do you currently have? I have filled up half of my 1.5 TB Seagate, but about 500 GB of it is designing/work related. However, my backup drives have to be plugged in, and I have often thought it would be nice to have one of the newer, more portable ones that doesn't require its own electrical cord.

I'm looking at an HP all-in-one desktop. Right now I only have a 320 GB hard drive and it's always full and everything runs so slowly. I am forever having to take things off of it to free up space so I knew I wanted 1TB but 2TBs is just $50.00 more. Not that $50.00 isn't a lot of money but will it be worth it in the long run? By the way, thanks to all of you are giving me some feedback.

Well, another way to look at that is that you wouldn't be able to purchase a 1TB EHD for $50.00 (at least not at this point,) so it might be worth just adding it to the computer now.

I've filled up EHD's and am constantly having to free up space on my laptop so it will run faster. I want a desktop with more than one fast drive---BIG drives, Faster, bigger, everything in the pc! :throw:

It's amazing how fast you can use up space, especially like others have said with photos and creating layouts --- I'd say go for the 2TB --- I don't think you'll be sorry!

I ordered it with 2TB and upgraded graphics card. Can't wait although I'm nervous about transfering everything from my old computer.

Oh, right, the "not fun" part. But, CONGRATULATIONS! You'll be so happy when it's loaded and working. Glad to hear that you went all out. It will be worth it!

I personally am considering a 3TB just because I am doing more photography & my clients' photos are taking up space faster than I had imagined.

I guess when it comes to storage, more is better especially if your profession takes up some of that space. I didn't know they sold 3T.

Ha... this thread made me laugh! I worked in magazine publishing in the early to mid-1990s when desktop publishing was just rolling out through the magazine publishing industry. I remember distinctly the day we were all told that graphic designers were going to get ... (wait for it) ... ONE gigabyte of space. We were all drop-jawed and vastly impressed.

Oh, how times have changed!

Technology sure is moving fast! My computer came today but I won't have time to look at it. We are leaving for vacation tomorrow. I'm both excited and nervous about opeing the box. I know the computer will be great but I dread moving everything over. I have ACDSee for my digital supplies and I haven't even checked into if I can move things and keep the thousands of tags.

If you have ACDSee, be very cautious. I have developed an intense dislike for the software, but all my tags are there, so I'm kind of stuck. Last time I upgraded, I lost a lot of things.

I can remember a discussion at work about how much we all envied the Pentagon's computers with a Terabyte of memory! We were so jealous! I work with geographic information systems, and if you think photography is a memory hog!!

Congratulations on the new computer. Use it in good health.

I didn't know about the 3T either.

I'm in the more the better camp too. Seems like we scrappers/photographers/memory keepers tend to store a lot of fairly large files....

I am not happy with how ACDSee is working out either, but like you I'm kind of stuck with it now. Even before I moved things to the new computer it was refusing to do a backup. I've had to re-tag about half of the stuff.

At one time I had all of my Scrap Girls supplies tagged in PSE Organizer. I accidentally deleted the catalog and lost all the tags. I use Picasa now and haven't tagged anything.

How do you find your supplies? My memory is not good enough to just remember what kit has a particular embellishment, but I would love not having to tag. Is there a secret I don't know about to organize everything?
