Help
I know that printers manage color differently from Photoshop and yet I finally took the time to test the difference. I am amazed. With Photoshop managing color settings, my image printed in shades of plum - really drab, except I have the perfect piece of paper to mount it on and perk it up, so not a waste. The same piece printed with the printer managing color came out pretty darn close to my intended color of a violet blue.
I suggest you test your settings (this is an option in the Photoshop CS5 print dialogue box) and see for yourself. Might make a big difference.

I've found the same thing. I typically work in RGB and the printer does an excellent job converting and printing accordingly. When I work in CMYK, both Photoshop and the printer are pretty close. I have found however, if I try to print CMYK outside of Photoshop (like through Picasa) I run into trouble. My assumption is that the home printers have been calibrated to convert RGB because that is what most people try to print and for some reason, Picasa assumes the same.
