loved joyces nl artcle on title tips today... so many fun ways to use alphas combined with styles and embellies..word art is something i want to get better at

would love to scraplift her lazy hazy crazy daze of summer title for a lo i am doing...i have the take wing collection..which are clear acrylic letters but cant figure out how to get the color of the letters like she has..also they seem gradient to me...any ideas all you talented people out there? hope you can tell me the how to

also do you think the lazy hasy crazy daze are the same letters or something different? maybe a font ? not an alpha...

hoping you can all help so i can get my lo finished...you ladies usually know a lot

The articile was great, wasn't it? So much to try!

I forget, Bobbie; Do you use PS or PSE? I use PSE, which doesn't have the ability to change the color of styles. As a work-around, I make a copy of whatever I'm going to add the style to (in this case, the letters), make them the color I want -- or use a gradient, if that's the look you are going for. That copy goes under the one with the style. Then I just play with opacity of the style layer until some of the underneath color shows through. Some styles do allow me to use blend modes, but many don't, so opacity is the only option I've found for them. If someone else has another idea, I'd love to learn it, too!

i use ps...i did fill a layer above with color and clip it and use blending modes..but not much like what joyce has done... she has so many great ideas. i will try to play with what you have given as ideas..and thanks ..

any more ideas on how to color the take wing collection alphas like joyce did?

i tried a layer with style, i tried a later with a color and clipping it...i tried selecting the alpha and then a new layer and filling it.... all give it some color but since it is an acrylic the color is not solid like joyce's ...there is just color on the edges... hoping to hear from one of you talented photoshop users.

So glad you all liked the tutorial. Titles can really add a lot of interest to your page. Diane was on the right track with the instructions. Here's how I did it using Photoshop CS5 on a Mac.

Arrange the Take Wing acrylic alphas on your page and then merge them together so that they are now on one layer. Duplicate that layer. Turn off the visibility on the top layer. On the bottom layer apply the marching ants. Go to Select>Inverse. Using the paint bucket and any color, fill in each letter. This will give you a solid base. You will need to pour quite a few times but it's not necessary to completely fill the letter. The edges should not show color. Copy and Paste. Now you will have three layers. Next set your foreground and background colors. While the marching ants are still active on the colored letters that are on the middle layer, using the gradient tool (found in the same box as the paint bucket), draw a horizontal line across the middle of the word. Release the marching ants and turn on the visibility of the top layer. Delete the third layer. You can now adjust the opacity of the bottom layer if you feel that you are not seeing enough of the acrylic. The sunglasses are Nick's. I took photographs in several different positions and then extracted the glasses. The font used on the top of SUMMER is Bookman Old Style with a stroke. Each word is a different color. Hope this helps.
