A few years ago, from the start of the middle Eastern wars and the USA, to just recently, I volunteered for several troop support groups. We mailed package, wrote letters, wrote to wounded at critcal hospitals, etc.

One of the most popular things for the troops and medical staff, was the donation of breadmakers to field medical units and the pre-packaged bread mix. The medical staff also needed encouragement, as it's a seriously tough job in those situations. They would have the breadmakers going so that every morning the smell of homemade breads wafted through the units. Everyone looked forward to a slice of bread and something that smelled like home. The medical staff wrote how wonderful and encouraging it was to everyone.

Who would have thought that the little breadmakers we take for granted could do so much good!

(Doing this for so many years finally got to me on a personal level, so I had to scale back the personal contact and just do what I can.) God Bless our troops and the medical corp.)

I can smell the bread just wafting through the barracks - it must bring some real peace and comfort for our brave troops. Thank you for sharing your experiences and God Bless our Troops!

Thanks. I just felt so strongly about it, and feel guilty that I am not still doing it.

Jean, one of the early women generals said, "Sometimes your job is not to take the hill, it's to carry the flag 100 yards." You can feel good about carrying that flag far more than 100 yards. It's OK to pass it on to someone else. You made a huge difference in more lives than you will ever know - it's more than enough. Bless you for all you have done and continue to do.
hugs,
