I just want to share a praise with you from yesterday. Our son has been hauling hay all week, two loads a day each day about 200 miles round trip. Yesterday he had an "incident" that ended up thankfully not being a issue. The brakes caught on fire while he was headed out with his second load!! His girlfriend was with him and told him they were on fire, of course, he didn't believe her...finally he saw the smoke and stopped...there were fire trucks and state troopers and local law enforcement on site! The firemen used their super duper fire extinguishers and took care of it quickly. Need I mention we are in a horrible drought...so any flames is an emergency situation...let alone 30 bales of hay with flames!! No one was hurt, the hay was saved and he safely made the rest of the trip. Brakes are repaired ("just" a broken spring).

So thankful a situation that could have been much worse really was not a big deal at all.

I have to laugh....my DH told me this when I was on my way home yesterday, around 5. It happened BEFORE NOON!! I think it's funny that DS didn't call me...he called his dad. Maybe he didn't want his mom wigging out on him... ;) He is terrible on the phone...it would have been, "mom the truck is on fire and there are cops and fire trucks"...at this point I'd be thinking all sorts of crazy things....LOL Instead of him starting with "mom, everything is taken care of, but this is what happened...."

Thank you for your kind thoughts. Really, it was nothing...and for that we are grateful!

Whew so glad he is okay! And nothing major caught on fire... I won't be hearing any news reports of wildfires in the KC area caused by a certain boy and his tractor ;)

I am so grateful it was "nothing" as you said in your second post Conda - It could very well have turned into a major something. Praise indeed!
My husband rode one day of RAGBRAI (the annual bike ride across Iowa in August) this year and on his way home (not part of the route) he rode on a recently finished road that still was only open to local traffic. After he saw a truck pull out of a gravel road ahead, he later noticed "gravel dust" that seemed to linger way too long as he road toward it - and it turned out to be a grass fire in the ditch! He called 911 in a hurry b/c with the drought, that could have spread a long, long way, especially on an essentially deserted closed road:(

*hugs*

Oh my gosh! So glad everyone is ok. I certainly know what you meant about the fear of fire around here. News last night said from Cameron to the north and Butler to the south is the center of the worst of what the weather bureau calls the "most extreme" part of the drought. Scary for you all. (That hay doesn't come cheap either!)

Wow, glad that all worked out! We had a baler catch fire on a nearby farm last month. Took the baler and 20 acres with it. So scary with things being dry. PTL all is well with your DS, the equipment, etc!

How good is it to be able to share moments of God's goodness like this. Glad to hear everyone was fine and the hay made it safely.
