About a month ago, I won a "free" web design package on Twitter. I was familiar with the designer from another "friend's" site who I follow (an author). So I like their style and thought it was a great opportunity. Did the questionnaire and set up a call for a few weeks ago. They never called. I had to email them before i heard from them finally the next day. I was kind of PO'd because I put a lot of time and effort into my thought process. :( But we did reschedule the call for this week. BUT 30 minutes before, (after i rushed home from some errands) I got an email . . . "complications in my pregnancy, can't talk today, please fill out the questionnaire and we'll talk in September."

Grrr . . . I am so frosted. I just have a bad taste in my mouth. As a business person, I couldn't imagine being that irresponsible. And yet I continue to see them holding contests, and offering discounts on projects. I feel bad that she is having issues but I am just wondering what their deal is.

Oh well, it is spurring me on to do this myself. I am working on my own logo and graphic idea and then just going to pay someone to design it for me (I really don't want to mess with Illustrator at this point in my life). The funny thing is . . . I was planning and willing to pay this company for a bigger package (so they would still have gotten some $business out of me). Pffft, I say. (sticks out my tongue and makes raspberries!)

What say you guys? I am pretty sure I would have been an easy client to work with - I even offered to do my own uploading and I already have hosting . . . oh well, THANKS for listening to my vent!!

Vent away! It doesn't sound like a very good business if they keep putting you off like that. I have no business head (leave that all to dh), but it seems to me that the whole point of "free" is to attract potential new customers. Good luck with the whole project!

Vent all you like. I would not be impressed with the way they have put you off either, it's their loss. Good luck with your project.

I know what you mean - I won a free software package once that I would get as soon as the final version was out - never happened. You have to wonder about some businesses.

Isn't it terrible when you have a hard time trusting people? Good luck on your site.:)

As the saying goes: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true. I just wish people were more honest and would stand by what they are promoting. I don't understand how they stay in business.

Good luck on your venture. Hope all goes well.

I'm so sorry, Dianne.....i was going to say what Carol said! Anything touted as "free" just usually isn't real! I've gotten caught up in things like this too and it took me awhile to figure out that I wasn't going to get "something for nothing"! :)

Bummer. I love that you're not letting this stop you from moving forward! Hope her pregnancy situation improves, and she and baby are OK.
