Jennifer, I, like you, often eat "whatever I want" since (please don't anyone throw tomatoes at me) my weight tends to stay the same no matter what I do. The difference with my workouts is, I can eat MORE food and stay the same, whereas when I didn't work out, my body said it was full sooner. Anyway, I have always eaten more veggies than your average American adult, but I have recently stepped it up even further. We belong to a CSA in the summer (Community Supported Agriculture) and get a fruit, veggie, and milk share from area farms. The veggies are of a wide variety, most pretty mainstream, others a bit more exotic. I've gotten adept at a few stir fry sauces and just throw in whatever veggies are on hand. We eat slightly less meat than we used to - I've done this very gradually and *knock on wood* I hope my family hasn't noticed - sh....please don't tell them! ;) If you think tofu is disgusting, please ask me for our recipe, lol, as it's really quite delicious the way we grill it. Even our kids will devour it and actually like it better than meat.
And the last really scary thing I've done is, since I "had" to go soda/pop-less while camping in the boonies this summer (didn't want to pack it in and have to drink it hot and then pack out the containers), I haven't touched a drop of anything carbonated since July 30. Even I cannot believe it. I never would have thought I could actually give it up. (Disclaimer: I do have one or two Crystal Lite powders in water during the day, so I'm not totally off Nutrasweet, although I did just find a Truvia one that I like just as well). I have sort of found that as I increase veggies and decrease pop and almost studiously don't buy sweets, I crave it all less than I used to.
My advice - baby steps:) Make little changes along the way, or go camping and force yourself to go without whatever your particular vice is. :giggle_bear:

35 minutes Chest and Back done for Tuesday! Feels great to get back at the workouts. I hope my schedule is settling in soon so I can be more consistent with it. I did half the workout today due to time, but increased reps and/or weight on virtually all to compensate. This is a repeating workout so you're supposed to do 2 identical rounds. I just did the first, then skipped to the cooldown.

I love that you say "pop" Cheri. That's how it's said around here... I get a hard time for saying "soda". ;)

Done for today!

Tuesday done!

I need to work at eating more often. I tend to only plan breakfast, lunch and dinner, without planning for snacks. This afternoon I was so hungry after my walk (I started at 4, and I should have had something to eat long before that). I just couldn't wait for supper! I had to have something fast - and the pan of brownies that DD made a couple of days ago was looking really good, even though I've managed to stay away from it this long. What saved me was my bin of food in the fridge - it's labeled "Mom's diet food - do not eat!" - that has light string cheese, baby bell light cheese, and some turkey pepperoni. I grabbed a piece of string cheese and a snack pack of mandarin oranges. Point is, it's really good to have portion-controlled good for you snacks available. I just need to work them into intentional snacks to keep my metabolism going.

Thanks, Cheri -- we are members of a CSA, too, and I do eat more veggies than meat. I will drink a diet soda once in a while, but I mostly stick to water and coffee in the morning. I think I have to 1) be more mindful about my food, 2) do better at planning meals and 3) have healthy snacks around, as Elisha just noted. Oh, and probably not buy that Rocky Road ice cream in the first place! LOL

:thanks:, again, for the support and advice!!!!

30 minutes on the exercise bike today (Tuesday).

Jennifer, are you able to ration treats? My DH is not, so things that tempt him do not enter the house. I am, so I make careful choices. Luckily, he prefers milk chocolate, and I prefer dark chocolate, so he doesn't raid my stash. If you are able to enjoy a 1/2 cup serving of ice cream (which is what a serving really is, according to the package), then you're probably safe having it in the house. But maybe for a time it's best not to tempt yourself.

Yesterday (Monday) I did an hour on the elliptical. Today I had a headache that lasted most of the day. Blah. But it is better finally.

I think I've got everyone, this cold is more like flu, my head is pounding. If I've missed something I'm sorry.

Carla, I have to keep track of all Ben's appointments and medication, all that requires me to be organised. I keep everything written down, and I use the same approach for the chart.

I've not been able to do anything, within 5 mins of getting on the bike I start coughing and can't stop for what feels like ages. I guess I'm going to have to wait for this cough to go.

Valerie, I think the rule of thumb is if the symptoms are below the neck, don't exercise. So I think you're wise.
