Just wondering how everyone celebrates Halloween where they are! (and hoping the storm doesn't spoil it for our little ones).

The neighborhood in which we live doesn't get many trick or treaters and we love to see the children all dressed up in their costumes. Pending the weather, our Main Street merchants host Trick or Treat here and they block off the traffic as much as they can. The streets are filled with children in costumes going from merchant to merchant with their goodie bags. It's safe and the kids love it. They have prizes for the best costumes, the funniest costumes, the scariest costumes for all age groups and it's a big hit every year!

Just wondering what you do in your town?

We do not do much for Halloween here in Australia. There are sometimes the odd group of children who do trick or treat. All the halloween costumes and foods are in the stores so some people must do some form of celebrating.

The little kids here go out very early so I miss them. One of the senior citizen residences had a sign on the street encouraging kids to come trick or treating. I thought that was a great idea. In my old hometown, where my sister still lives, they have a lot of organized parties for the children to discourage going house to house.

We've had to change our Halloween traditions a bit now that we are in Maryland. We took the girls to a roller skating Halloween party at the gym on Sunday. They both won a prize for their costumes. If there is school tomorrow, they will have a costume parade and parties. Our street has a Halloween party in the cul-de-sac before everyone heads out trick or treating.

We didn't do our usual trip to the farm or Zoo Boo this year. We did go to Busch Gardens and saw all the Halloween decorations there. We left before the scary stuff started, though.

I am not a huge fan of Halloween or trick or treating, but, of course the kids are! We took dd to a town sponsored trick or treat event Sunday. I am hoping to avoid the door to door trick or treating since we live in the apartment still. The boys are too old, in my opinion. My 13 yo ds wanted to go out with some of his friends but I won't let him, that's just asking for trouble.

Halloween is a very minor event here in the UK. Some schools do parties, but most don't. We get a few trick or treaters, but personally I don't like it and won't let my kids go out. Some people have parties, but again it's not many. The shops sell loads of bits for Halloween, but it's not catching on, at least not in this part of the UK.

Bonfire Night is far more popular, and it's only a few days away.

I always loved Halloween as a kid. Trick or Treating was pretty much the only time we had candy! As a mom, I enjoyed taking my kids around the neighborhood trick or treating and it was a great time for me to get to know some of my neighbors that I didn't usually interact with. I kind of miss it now that my kids are all to old for it.
Now I enjoy handing out candy and making a big deal over the kids' costumes. We don't get anywhere near as many little visitors as we used to though. :(
And if teenaged boys come trick or treating at my house, I'll give them a nice big handful of candy. ;)

I like the dress up aspect of Halloween, and trick-or-treating to show off the costumes! As a kid, we lived too far out in the country to do much so I really get a kick out of seeing the little ones in the neighborhood come by. It's the one night of the year the whole neighborhood really connects and I like that aspect too.
