Has anyone ever downloaded files from BackBlaze? I've been trying since the weekend and nothing works. I've followed their directions, spent days downloading, unzipping and emailing them. Nothing works.

My EHD crashed last week. I bought a new Seagate 3TB. I'm so frustrated and angry that I've spent all this time trying to get my files downloaded. I don't know what to do. They don't have phone customer service. I never heard of a company not having that. So all you can do is email them and then you have to wait for them to email you back.

I'm at my wits end and I am not happy with this company. As soon as I get all my files back, I'm switching to another company. Don't know which one, as I'm not happy with any of the services.

I found the process very simple.

You say you download, then unzip. Where is it going wrong?

One thought did your new EHD install correctly. Have you put anything else on your EHD? Did it work?

I always keep a spare drive with all my back-ups on it because it is soooo much faster to restore. Sorry, I don't have experience with restoring from any online site.

As far as I can figure out, what is going wrong is that it's not downloading the complete file from BackBlaze, but it doesn't tell you that happened. I'm in the process of downloading the file again, which will take another 30+ hours to complete. Then I have to unzip using their unzip app.

I installed the EHD correctly. I've added stuff to the EHD already and it works fine. The problem is with BackBlaze.

Is it the size of the file?

When I restored from them, I did it in sections. My internet connection is temperamental at best, if I loose connection, even for a second, the download fails. I was able to pick what files I wanted restored each time, and as I had 30 days (I think), it was the best way for me to do it.

I didn't need a special app to unzip them, Windows did it for me.

I'll be watching this thread. My contract with Mozy is up this weekend and I won't be going back to them. I hope it's figured out quickly, Carol! I feel your pain, I really do!

Hmm, I've downloaded from them several times, always in small chunks, so my only guess would be the size of the file. That really stinks that they don't have phone customer service to help you figure it out.

My file is huge. But they said to use their download and unzip files and there should be no problem. Well, I guess they are wrong. I was thinking of doing it in smaller files, as the total amount of the one file is over 200GB. I just received another 'fail' notice, and I thought my head was going to explode. I'll try to download in smaller batches and see if that works, tomorrow.

I'm with the others - I've only downloaded small chunks. It does look like downloading the large files would be problematic. I'm sorry to hear that it's been so frustrating for you. I did find that it took them awhile to answer emails but I got my files to download rather quickly.

I'm sorry to hear that this is so lengthy and frustrating for you, Carol. I don't use Backblaze so don't know much abut it, but I do download in small chunks!

I'm taking my old EHD to a computer shop tomorrow and see if they can transfer the files to my new EHD. I'm not going to spend the rest of my life trying to restore my files in small chunks.

I just tried hooking up my old EHD and it's dead. As the old saying goes: deader than a coffin nail.

I know it's an extra expense, but BackBlaze will mail you an EHD with all of your backed-up files on it for around $100. I know as a subscriber, you already plunked down a chunk of change for the security of online backup, but if you can't download the files over the internet, they will send them to you via snail mail.

Let us know what happens with Backblaze as I have it also. I have used it and downloaded with no problems at all. But I too have done it in smaller increments.

I know they will do that, however, it's not for large files. I think the max is 28GB for $99 for a USB Flash Drive. For $189 your files will be sent on an external USB hard drive max 1TB. My file is about 400GB and I really don't want to layout $200. But I'll see what the computer people say tomorrow. They need to make it easier to download large files.

I'm with April on this one. I was actually going to go with Backblaze but my husband decided to clone our entire computer and that gets put away. It will get updated when new programs are added or every couple months or so It only takes about 6 hours worth knowing that I will have all my programs as well as file, etc...(Every single thing on my entire computer will be there from the time of the clone). Now a days everyone just downloads from the internet and doesn't have a backup CD if something were to go wrong. I will have 2 other EHDs. One 3 TB will be connected to my laptop at all time and that will have all my scrapbooking on it. I just don't have the space on my computer which is like 300-400 GB. I will than backup that EHD to another one on a regular basis and put that away also (That however will only be a backup of files, documents, pictures, etc...It will not be any programs or anything like that. It's basically for all scrapbooking and pictures).
I remember someone on here told me I shouldn't keep my banking information on my computer. That doesn't work for me because I use online banking to pay all my bills, etc...

Carol, you have had more than your share of frustrations! I'm telling it to stop!!! (no guarantees the world will listen, alas). You are one of our most loyal, dedicated scrappers, and this is just not fair!
Hang in there! I have 3 backup EHDs and no on-line backup. I know April keeps a hard drive in their safe deposit box, just in case. It's a good idea.

Your laugh for today (I'm trying not to scream): I just received an email from BackBlaze that my 'Backup is Safety Frozen', and I have to do a whole bunch of stuff to correct the problem. That 'stuff' includes to prepare a restore immediately (like I haven't been trying to do that), then reboot the computer. Then I have to 'uninstall BackBlaze' and then 'reinstall' it. This reinstall will be as a new trial which expires after 15 days, but then I can transfer my paid license to the new license.

UGH! After I get all my data moved over to my new EHD, that is it for BackBlaze. I will use my new EHD as my backup as I only put Scrap Girls and my photos and a few other things on there. No programs, which are all on my Hard Drive. I will then make a copy on discs and keep them in my friends house in his fireproof safe.

I'm breathing, slowly: in through my nose, out through my mouth. My mantra is: Do Not Scream or Pull Your Hair Out. Do Not Scream or Pull Your Hair Out. So far it's kind of working. I only pulled a little of my hair out. Bwahahahahaha!
