I was JUST asked by my sis in-law to make something for my niece who is turning 18. She wants us to do like a love letter with wisdom and advice as she is a senior this year and leaving the nest in June. Not much notice, but I think I can pull together a mini album for her - I have quite a few layouts already scrapped of her ... but I was thinking I would like to give her 18 pieces of wisdom on various topics such as faith, character (honesty, etc) and make tags with these sayings, quotes, verses numbering them one through eighteen. My head is spinning with design ideas so I was hoping all of my SG friends would give a shout out with a verse/quote that would fit in this "pearls of wisdom" idea. They don't have to be long ... even one sentence quotes on a topic of virtue would be great. Her fav movie growing up was Finding Nemo (I don't think I've watched that) - but I'm not opposed to a quote from something like that (Winnie the Pooh has some great one-liners) anyway .... I appreciate any and all ideas! Thanks in advance! Oh yeah .... I only have 6 days to make this happen ... that is why my head is spinning!!

I'm thinking Lei.... What a wonderful idea!

OK.... I am back. I just love Rumi quotes.
Here's a few on life ----

"When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy."

"Appear as you are,
Be as you appear."

Rumi on Wisdom"
"Since in order to speak, one must first listen, learn to speak by listening."

"Only from the heart Can you touch the sky."

Hope that helps.. I will keep looking! Good luck - sounds like a special and very meaningful gift. :D

What a great gift idea!

This is one of my favorites:

Hi Lei, have you thought about looking at some of the digital ATCs? October 2012, April 2011, and August 2010 have some great quotes/words of wisdom. There may be more than that, too. Just a thought... :)

"Keep on Swimming, Keep on Swimming!" is one of the lines of Dory Fish (Ellen Degeneres) from Finding Nemo. That really could be profound!

What an outstanding idea for a gift! I subscribe to Real Simple's Daily Thought and today's was:

"I have found if you love life, life will love you back." ~Arthur Rubenstein

Yesterday's -

"Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for." ~Joseph Addison

I tried to see if they have past ones on their website that might be helpful but the categories they showed were not applicable.

This is a great idea, Lei - I did one of these for my Sara when she graduated high school (and graduating college this May - can you believe it?) Anyway, I did a page of positive words of wisdom for her but I also included some of Bill Gates quotes on a whole nother page - some of them are kind of "to the point" and Sara already knew most of them, but I thought some of his words were important enough to hear again.

Just a few:

1. Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
2. If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss for whom to work.
3. Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employees are interesting in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

I know these aren't the kind of words of wisdom you were looking for, but........they are so true.

Now, for the serious stuff:

"God always has your back, and if you just believe, and put your hopes on His promises, there will be no day that has past that you don't feel great about."

"Always tell the truth, use kind words, keep your promises, giggle and laugh, stay happy and be positive, love one another, always be grateful, forgiveness is mandatory, give thanks for everything, try new things, say please and thank you, smile."

" Choose to love; rather than hate. Choose to laugh; rather than cry. Choose to create; rather than destroy. Choose to persevere; rather than quit. Choose to praise; rather than gossip. Choose to heal; rather than wound. Choose to give; rather than steal. Choose to act; rather than procrastinate. Choose to grow; rather than not. Choose to pray; rather than curse. Choose to live; rather than die"

And my favorites by Dr. Seuss:

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out"?

"Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way"

"You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can go any direction you choose"

"I meant what I said and I said what I meant, Only you can control your future"

"A person's a person, no matter how small"

"“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”

"“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.”

"“You'll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You'll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.”

"“Oh the places you'll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball will make you the winning-est winner of all.”

"“It's not about what it is, it's about what it can become.”

"“When you think things are bad,
when you feel sour and blue,
when you start to get mad...
you should do what I do!
Just tell yourself, Duckie,
you're really quite lucky!
Some people are much more...
oh, ever so much more...
oh, muchly much-much more
unlucky than you!”

I know your book will be just lovely and filled with good advice! Hope you'll share the finished product with us!

In a truly healthy relationship, one person can't win if the other one loses. You want that place where both sides feel heard, respected, and honored.

(my DH and I have built our relationship on this)
