Today at Mass, Fr. Francisco did not preach a homily. He indicated we would sit in silence, sending our thoughts and prayers to the people of Newtown CT. After 10 minutes or so of peaceful quiet, he indicated we are "adopting" St. Rose of Lima parish in Newtown, and invited us to write Christmas cards of condolence, hope and prayer for the people of the community. Drop them at his office, and he'll overnight all of them on Thursday. Thank you, Father, for this wonderful idea.
Some of you may have seen this post on my Facebook page. I am posting it here, also, because I think the idea is wonderful, and it sounds like something our ScrapGirls' community would do. If you want to send a letter supporting the community at large, the parents, teachers, pastors & rabbis, families and citizens of Newtown, the address to send to is:

St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church
46 Church Hill Road
Newtown, CT 06470

I'm sure the other faith communities in Newtown would also appreciate this outreach; perhaps someone else can provide additional addresses.

This is very touching, Barbara. Thanks for posting this. I will send a card or letter out this week. I know our SG community will adopt this town as well.

Wonderful idea. I was thinking about finding the address for the United Methodist Church and giving it to our congregation. We are holding a prayer service tomorrow night at 6:00.

Another Sunday thought - Emanuel, in all our troubles and amidst the evils of the world, He is with us. I was listening to part of the memorial service in Newton tonight and was touched by the many branches of the people of God offering their condolences.
The cards are a great idea, Barb. Thanks for the suggestion

I also heard on the news that letters can be sent to:
Message of Condolence
PO Box 3700
Newtown, CT 06470

I believe this has affected everyone--and maybe a bit more to those of us who are or were first grade teachers.
I still have tears when I hear anything about what happened to everyone in that school.

Happy and safe holidays to everyone.

Lyn (mrh)
