It's a New Year and a time for you to make new healthy habits! The hustle and bustle of December is over!! We'll start on January 1st and go for 30 days.

Posted Image

The rules as compiled by a number of shredders:

You must exercise each day (6 days per week) of the 30 challenge for at least 20 minutes. You may use any DVDs you have on hand such as Jillian's 30 Day Shred, Chalean Extreme or you can do any activity you like. eg. walk, bike ride, swim or go to the gym.

You must post to the check in thread each day to get checked off and have your progress charted.

If you miss a day you can make it up on Sunday. Make up days can also be accomplished by doing a separate workout in a day. For example - "I did Zumba for 1 hour in the morning" = 1 workout and "I walked for 45 minutes in the evening" = 1 workout for a total of 2 workouts that day. Just let me (Carla) know what gaps you want me to fill for you.

Pretty simple, right? If you have any problems, questions, vents or muscle soreness to complain about, this is the place to do it! The support here is amazing!

So, who is game? Just post here and I'll add you to the list!!

Well, I want to report that I got a head start on this challenge. I actually visited the web site for our local Parks and Rec fitness center to see what's available...and there's lots! Next step is to sign up for some of their programs.

Can we "pay it forward"? I had a fantastic workout today, 2 hours slogging through the snow. Muscles are aching tonight! On Wednesday I'm buying a set of Nordic skis...when you live in cold country, outfit yourself to enjoy it in all seasons.

I love your enthusiasm, Ann! If you need to fill a hole the first week, then I don't see why you can't use your snow workout! We keep getting winter weather advisories here, with 1-3 inches of snow (funny...that's normal snow back home, but here it's an advisory), and then we get nothing....it all turns to rain!

I've added Conda, Lei and Angie to the list!

Off to a good start, 30 minute walk through the snowy woods. And does banging my head on the desk for an hour trying to sort out my upgrade to Mac Mt. Lion count as a workout??

Did 2 x 20 minute walks this afternoon/evening. I may have to hold one of these in reserve for later in the week as I'm not sure what my schedule is likely to be.

*giggle* probably not, on the Lion upgrade, but thanks for the chuckle:)
The snowy woods walk sounds lovely! It was a chilly 10 degrees or so here today - I was surprised how long 2 of my sons played out there. Brrrrr! I love winter, but 10 is a little cold for me to play outdoors unless skiing is involved.

Chest, Shoulders and Triceps done for me for Tuesday!

Whoo-Hoo!! Look at everyone go! I'm so proud of you all!!! I didn't do a formal workout today...but lots of cleaning, vacuuming, lifting heavy boxes and dancing to Just Dance 4 on the Wii with the girls late last night. My back is feeling it, as well as my hips and feet, so I'm counting it!

Chart is updated!

Something to think about: What will you gain when you lose this month? I saw this on a commercial for Special K cereal, and the Shredders really is about more than just losing weight!

So, what will you gain? I think I'll gain some confidence. Hopefully I'll like looking in the mirror again!

I am not sure where this day went, but somehow it is already over and no workout. I have a plan for making it up tomorrow: getting up, walking the dog and undecorating and cleaning the house.

I hope to gain cardio strength and get back a bit of the muscle strength I've lost by not working out daily the last few months. I don't want to commit to a full hour each day like when I was actually doing P90X - so I may do some of the P90X workouts, but skip a few of the exercises, or just do the first 3/4 or last 3/4 or something like that.

I am hoping to gain strength, flexibility and balance. That's what you lose rapidly as you age, and I want to stave it off as long as I can. Thanks for the encouragement!
