Got a good, brisk 30 min walk in this morning.

Day 2 complete! Metabolic 1 (fat-burning/aerobic)

My tip: for those of you who use videos-I ALWAYS put in the next dvd when I am done with my workout for the day. I get it started so literally all I have to do is hit "play"...no waiting on all that other stuff...it's a time saver for me!

I am hoping to gain strength, flexibility and balance. That's what you lose rapidly as you age, and I want to stave it off as long as I can. Thanks for the encouragement!

Me too Ann...strength, flexibility and balance. Those make such a huge difference in daily life. So thankful to be back on track! I noticed (although I will never admit it publicly...lol) while I was working out before, I didn't have the body aches and pains and stiffness. Oh yes, I had sore muscles, which I came to love...but not the ever day aches and pains!

Walk done for today, now off to undecorate and clean the apt.

I, too must admit to some aches and pins that I think are age and lack of excercise related. I am hoping that once the in-laws leave I can get back to my pilates videos, love all that stretching!

30 minutes on the treadmill done! It was a chore just to get on it, but once I was there, I felt great! I'm exhausted today (week of staying up too late and sleeping in has caught up to me!), but I hope to hit the gym tomorrow.

Don't forget to weigh/measure yourself so you can see the progress you are making!!

Wed done. It's rest day for weights, and I have a horrible head cold so I just walked 2 miles on the treadmill

What do I want to gain...strength and endurance I lost over this last year dealing with my arthritis.

It's a very cold day here on the high desert, so I converted my house to a gym. 20 round trips up to the second floor, 10 minutes with weights, and 10 minutes stretching. And I'm plenty warm!

I forgot about exercise for the last while. Well other than physical therapy which is quite exhausting itself.

If it's not too late I'd like to join in for January too. I spent about 2 hours at physical therapy today so that would be today's exercise. However, I'll try to do something tonight to make up for yesterday.

Thursday done-30 minutes on the treadmill.

Another thing I'm trying to do besides exercise is drink more water. At lease a bottle a day. I know some of you only drink water, but for me, it's a challenge. Aside from breakfast, I only drink soda pop. I know it's not good, so I'm slowly trying to change it!

Shoulder stabilization done for today. I almost cried like a baby at the end when I had to do push ups....my shoulders were "done" from the previous exercises. I couldn't do all 24! I held plank during the last set!

Carla...I've been focusing on water and I feel so much better!! TMI here...but I get tired of the trips to the bathroom...lol Yesterday I started my 5th 24 oz glass. Today (at 11:45a) I'm on glass 2.

So...I have to ask...what is your favorite ab workout? I'm not really trying for a 6 pack (although Chalene says everyone has a set...???) but I really want to work on that area specifically in addition to my other routine. Anyone have thoughts/recommendations? Bob has an ab yoga workout...which is NOT yoga...that I can do, but I wondered about a program to add on...

Maybe something that's not brutal??? LOL No pain no gain...I know!

I really like the ab/core workout that is included with TurboFire... well, as much as someone can actually "like" an ab workout LOL... but I know that won't really help you since you don't own that program. I can FEEL it working my core muscles, but have yet to see any of them. Although with the drop in pants sizes over the past year, it obviously works.

I am cutting down on the soda, too. I drink diet, but I know that's not good for me. I have been drinking more herbal tea, but should add some just plain water to my day, as well.

I missed Tuesday, never planned to start then anyway! Yesterday (Wed), I just felt icky. I'm still feeling icky, sniffly and sneezy, but I got on the treadmill anyway. Did 40 minute brisk walk! So Thursday done!

I'm in if it's not too late to add my name to the chart :) My goal for 2013 is to intentionally move my body for 20+ minutes EVERY SINGLE DAY. I've come to the realization that there really is NO reason *not* to. Even if I'm sick, a walk outside in the fresh air or doing some intentional stretching or yoga could be beneficial. If I'm super busy in life, a quick 20 minute workout of sorts will be invaluable "me" time and help me clear my head. I don't know why I've looked at exercise as some massive thing to schedule into my day. I just need to DO it. 20 minutes is nothing in the scheme of my day. I waste way more than 20 minutes doing random stuff throughout any given day, I can turn 20 of those non-focused minutes into exercise ones :)

Anyway.... all part of my epiphany going into 2013 LOL. There are several other "no reason not to..." activities I intend to work on this year as well :)

I did 20 minutes of hula on Jan 1 and 20 minutes of zumba on Jan 2 :)

I really do like Jillian's 6 Week 6 Pack - I don't always go as fast as they do and I take some breaks when I need it. They also show modified moves, at least in level 1. Level 2 can definitely be modified too; she just doesn't "let" the modified girl modify anymore. You know Jillian, she's always being "mean".
If I was starting out without a lot of ab strength, I seriously think I'd just do one round of level 1 or 2 for the first however long I needed to before I moved on (both workouts consist of one round at regular speed, then a second round of the same thing, faster). Level 1 focuses more on abs, and level 2 more on overall cardio.
The reason they say everyone has a 6 pack is that we all have the same musculature/structure, it's just some of us have, um, a bit (more more) "padding" on top;) And the more you use the muscles, the more they will beef up a bit, even with us women and our lack of testosterone (which is what allows men to really get big muscles when they work out).

Anyway, each workout is about 35 minutes or so, including cool down I think, and is modifiable across a wide range. And it was a very reasonable cost on Amazon.
She has a new one out called Killer Abs, lol...not sure I want that one, knowing how "mean" she is in her regular videos...;)

Conda, if you want more info, pmail me and I can fast forward through the DVD and type out a sample list of the exercises she has you doing...

Continuing with my home gym innovation approach, I did another 10 laps up and down the "stairmaster", and determined that a round trip of our ground level, from garage door, to master bedroom, with loops through other rooms, amounted to almost 150 steps, or 300 feet....15 round trips equals approximately 1 mile. So I added that along with ten minutes with weights, and ten minutes stretching. This is not as sophisticated a workout as most of you are doing, but my goals are a bit different...and I'M MOVING!!

Of course you can jump in Ang!!! I'm so impressed with all of you working out when not feeling well...

Dh has been on my case to start taking a multi-vitamin. I saw some at Costco today and picked them up. He laughed at me when I told him it was an impulse item! I just hope I can remember to take them.
