Sorry this is a very long post BUT --- I feel like I've been run through the wringer AND hauled back through it :( It was such a great Sunday until "The Boys" came back in around 3 pm from playing outside --- Abe and Brady (who are puppy litter mates and neutered) evidently got into a fight. Abe went into their crate in the bedroom and Brady behind my chair --- well it took a little while to see that they had fought AND to see the extent of their wounds. By 5 pm I called Mama to see if she wanted to go to the emergency vet in Brewer --- well of course she went BUT would she have rather stayed home and watched the Patriots, yes! To make an awful long story short --- 4 hours later we got back home with Abe with a staple up near his left eye AND Brady with 8 stitches in his right leg ALL the other wounds and yes there were many had been cleaned --- now pain meds for 4 days AND antibiotics for 10 days, I am so stressed I cannot believe they did that to each other :( AND on top of it all I take Brady into the exam room AND Mama was going to bring Abe --- I look back out and Mama is on the floor with Abe, he had tripped her and she had fallen AND she couldn't get back up even though he was trying his best to help her. She was ok and when we were sitting in the exam room she says "what would anyone have thought if they'd walked in the door and saw me on all fours nose to nose with that dog? LOL I guess my question is --- has this ever happened to any of you AND how did you handle it? Oh AND we won't even discuss the emergency bill :(

Wow! Although never had that happen, I am feeling your pain. Have had days where all I wanted to do was go back to bed and sleep. Hoping I could wake up and it all be a dream!

That was definitely a bad day. When we were first married many years ago we had a Cocker Spaniel who was very protective of us. He wouldn't let any other dogs near us or come into our yard. Only problem was, our neighbors had a Dobberman Pincer. Our dog would run out to the edge of our yard and challenge him everytime he got close. The Doberman would pick him up, shake him, and drop him. Several trips to the vet for stitches after those encounters!
Hope your doggies heal up quickly.

:bighug:

Been there, sort of. Not the fighting part, but the falling part. I still have scars. Two years ago Dusty heard/saw something out the front window around 7:30 am and decided to go after it - through the window. There was blood everywhere and it looked like a crime scene where he cut open his nose. Anyway, off to the emergency vet for surgery and 8 stitches in his nose. He was sent home wearing a cone, and we were told not to let him just run in the yard and I should have known not to listen to them. I tried to take him out the next morning, on a leash (stupid me), and he bolted. The leash caught on my wrist and he dragged me along the back patio which is what they call Chattahoochee stone- very tiny gravel all sealed together. I was weeks healing and soaking the gravel out of my elbow and knee. LOL

And yes, the vet bill was awful.

Oh dear, that's a lot in one night. I guess doggie brothers are not much different than human kid brothers, harassing each other. Hope they heal quickly and that your mom is alright and that your day is an easier one :)

Oh, my! What an awful day!! I haven't had anything like this happen, but Buddy isn't really around other dogs anymore. I hope the next 10 days go by quickly and they don't have another fight. At least the Patriots won!

Oh dear Sherry, so sorry to read this. Hope your 'boys' have learnt their lesson and especially hope your mama is ok. Hope you get through the next ten days with your sense of humor intact.

Thank you everyone for the hugs AND the stories --- it all helps! Yesterday we tried several different things AND made some decisions about changes that we are going to institute. We only let one pup out at a time AND Buddy could go out with them if he so chose - that worked well and I think the separation showed them that what they did was unacceptable. We also intervened when Buddy was showing his aggression, which we have never done before --- not sure that was something they should have been learning. AND the last thing that is being started today is assigned feeding times --- for the 38 years that we have had dogs we have always done free feed BUT that seems to be a big part of what starts it all inside with Buddy --- so we're thinking that is another "learned behavior". Abe and Brady were starting to argue over bowls even though we have 3 bowls with food in the house.
