Last Fall I posted something about my marriage being rough. My husband and i decided to redo our kitchen in June. And it was toooo big of a project for him. We have 6 kids and I was really getting angry that we didn't have a kitchen for 6 months. Because the project was too big my husband would do anything, but work on the kitchen. Finally after Thanksgiving he kicked it into gear and really did an amazing job, we are not done yet...more cabinets and refrigerator to put in. And we had a really sweet couple show up and help him. I am thrilled to have a dishwasher--first one I have ever had! I am so relieved to have a table with plenty of room to get around and counters and working stove. A couple weeks ago my husband and I were having a real intense conversation/spat and we both stopped and apologized about our attitudes to each other for the last 6 months and made a commitment that we were both going to give each other a LOT more GRACE. And that is why I am doing well because he is my husband and he is my best friend again. And on future projects we are agreeing to listen to each other and get help. We give our kids grace all the time, but we weren't giving it to each other and now we are seeking each other out several times during the day and giving to each other. I am very thankful!

I'm glad you're getting through the rough patch. I think those rough patches are always along our journey - sometimes we can wade our way through, and sometimes we need a machete to hack out a path! I pray that your marriage will be blessed because of it.

Thanks for sharing this, we all need a reminder that if it wasn't for Grace, we would all have no hope. Glad things have gotten better for you!

Remodeling, plus children in the mix, can always cause problems. Been there, done that. LOL. Glad things are getting better.

So nice to hear this. Its very easy to get caught up in the problems and forget the people, the ones we love the most. Continued prayers for healing the hurt and strength to watch out for it again in the future. And congrats on the new kitchen!!! Enjoy it!

I'm so glad to hear this, Dixie! And I know where you're coming from. We bought a home 5 years ago that took 6 months just to make it livable! It still isn't finished - I think they're always a work in progress but its getting there. :) but it was such an overwhelming job to do along with working full time and everyday things that you can't just stop doing that we were sniping at one another often. Once we got the must do things done and moved in we decided to just STOP for 6 months and find our way back and it worked. I'm glad we both have our best friends back! Hugs!

Bless your hearts! It sounds so cliche, but marriage really is a sacred bond that needs tended actively and carefully. Just managing a big family or managing a kitchen remodel would be taxing enough to any relationship, never mind both! I'm glad you remembered the love, friendship, and commitment that you have built the foundation of both your family and your home upon. Now how about cookin' up something sweet for just the two of you! :)

That is a good story and an encouraging one too. And I hear you about projects . . . our gameroom project took 3 years to finish (2001-04), and I can relate to never having a dishwasher either - LOL! (I thought I was the only one!) Thanks for sharing so honestly.

Dixie that is great news! Sometimes those moments and stepping back and reflecting make all the difference! Sounds like you two are on solid ground and will be even better going forward!

I got the shivers reading your post Dixie, so very very happy for you. if we take the time to just stop, listen to ourselves and realise that maybe, just maybe, we need to take a moment and show some grace, many an argument may never take place.

I love how you put that you gave each other GRACE, I'm going to use that if I may next time my dh drives me up the wall

So glad to hear things are better, Dixie. That is a rough combo - a too large remodel and large family. I saw my sister go through this, with her husband not wanting to admit he couldn't do it all himself. A great note about grace - it doesn't just apply to a couple, either.
