I purchased Syndee Nickels Retro Valentine. I used PSE and easily put in the color with the paint bucket but I can't get the black outline to stay black when I try to get the dress/headband blue. If I click it blue all the black turns blue. Help. I'm getting late getting my Valentines done. Thanks.
Ellen

Hi Ellen, first welcome to Scrap Girls! We're glad to have you here. :)
I'm not sure if this is what you need, but if you are trying to fill the dress and headband areas with a different color, try using the Magic Wand tool. (Earlier versions of PSE shortcut = W and PSE 11 shortcut = A)

Using the color picker, change the foreground color chip to the color you want to use for the dress/headband.

With the Magic Wand selected, set the Tolerance to 32 be sure contiguous is checked. Click on the area of the dress or headband that you want to color.
You will see marching ants outlining the area. Now you can use any of these three methods to fill the dress or headband:

A. Use the Paint Bucket tool to fill the area inside the marching ants with your chosen color
B. Go to Edit>Fill Selection. When the Fill Layer box opens, be sure Use Foreground Color is chosen in the dropdown, Blending Mode is Normal and Opacity is 100%. Click OK. This will fill the area inside the marching ants with your foreground color.
C. Go to Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Hue/Saturation. (Shortcut CTRL+U). When the Hue/Saturation box opens, click the Colorize box, then adjust the Saturation and Lightness sliders until you are happy with the color that appears in the dress or headband. Click OK.

Press CTRL + D or the Escape key to deselect the marching ants.

I'm sure there are other methods, but these are the ones that are easy for me and I use most often. HTH

I usually but the color on a separate layer and put it under the outline. Do your selection of the area inside the black, grow the selection by a pixel or two and make sure the color layer is selected before you do the fill. Or you can just use a brush.

Just reread your post - is the headband all black? In that case, make a layer on top of the black & use a small brush to color what you want blue.
