Stressful day, but a good ending. Dusty Puppy got out this morning (he Houdinis under the chain link fence) and was hit by a large pickup truck. Sarah and I saw him get out, were trying to catch him, and saw it all happen. The driver couldn't avoid him, so there's no blame there, and he did stop. But Dusty took off in the other direction so we knew (hoped?) he wasn't seriously hurt. This was at 7am and we got him home and got ourselves (and him) cleaned up) and headed for the vet.

He has some nasty contusions where he hit the pavement, but after shaving around the biggest spot on his side, the doc cleaned him up. He took a series of x-rays of his chest but doesn't really expect to find anything. We have pain meds and antibiotics and he'll call us after the radiologist reads the films. He said, "I don't see anything wrong but if this was my dog, I'd send them out to be read just to be sure."

He napped on our bed finally, and is very stiff, but we're so thankful. Doc said if it had been a car that was lower to the ground he wouldn't have made it. The height of the truck saved him.

I love our vet, and our pastor had the entire office praying for him.

OH Becky! So sorry, I feel I know Dusty from your Project 52 layouts and he always made me smile. Sending lots of smles and best wishes his way and to you and Sarah too. What an awful sight to see, I am so sorry but glad that Dusty is ok and doing as best he can. Take care all of you.

Oh no!I'm so glad he's going to be ok! *hugs* all the way around.
Our Daisy is a Houdini too...DH has buried and "nailed" 4" x 4" by 5-ish foot wooden posts flat into the ground all the way around the fence line here. It has helped tremendously with her getting out. FYI if Dusty keeps it up:)

Oh, Becky! How scared you must have been when you saw Dusty run! My heart goes out to you - we have a little Yorkie that takes off if she gets the chance and I am scared to death she's going to get hit one of these days. We can't even open the front door without picking her up first because she will take off.

Hugs to you and Sarah and you know our hearts and prayers here are with you all.

Oh, poor Dusty. I hope he feels better soon. My prayers are going out for the little baby. You must have been horrified to see the whole thing happen. Hugs to all of you.

Oh Becky! You poor thing! And poor Dusty! What a horrible, heart-stopping start to you day! I am very happy to hear that Dusty appears to be well, but will be sending prayers your way. Isn't it amazing how a dog is so much more then just a pet?

Oh, Becky, this is heartbreaking. I hope that your Dusty recovers completely, and that his x-rays come back with good results. Hugs to all of you!

How horrible. I feel for you. I miss seeing Dusty in the layouts. He is my favorite pup to read about. Hope he feels better soon.

UPDATE 3/14: Morning! Talked to the vet just a little while ago. Dusty's x-rays didn't show anything out of the ordinary considering what he went through. Blood tests in a week because the liver levels were very elevated, but he says that's common after trauma. Dusty is up and around this morning, mush better, but tires easily.

Thanks for your sweet comments yesterday and all the prayers and good wishes!
