Help
Hi All,
My cousin, Lauren and her husband, Dave tried for three years to get pregnant. She suffered several miscarriages and finally, last year announced that she had hit the 12-week mark and their baby would be born at the end of March this year.
Yesterday morning at around 4AM her water broke and the umbilical cord and one of the baby's feet protruded. They drove to the nearest hospital (not the hospital where they had planned to deliver, nor with staff they had seen before) where they received prompt attention and the baby (a boy) was born around 7:15 AM. We were all elated thinking everything went well.
A few hours later my mom called me and told me that the baby had to be revived upon delivery. My cousin has a moderate bicornuate uterus (it has a membrane that sort-of separates it into two chambers). It seems that the baby was "stuck" in the one chamber before delivery and was without oxygen for an unknown period of time. Once revived, the baby did cry (a good sign), but whatever newborn tests they perform were just "OK." Not bad, but not good either. No one has yet held the baby (which I think is terrible, but I am hopeful that the doctors have a good reason for this) and he is not to be stimulated in any way. He is breathing on his own and managing his own temperature, but he is in an isolated basinette with a few monitors. They are going to re-assess him sometime today.
Apologies for the long note, but any positive, healing and caring thoughts sent out to and for my cousin and her husband and their dear son would be much appreciated. (The baby is still nameless -- they both wanted to meet him before naming him and as this hasn't really happened yet, he remains "Baby G.")

My cousin was able to begin cuddling her DS yesterday evening and now they cannot be pried apart with a crowbar! LOL He is still in NICU, but she can see him whenever she wants. The doctor said that someone must be watching out for her and that baby because she could not believe that the baby she delivered Saturday morning was the same baby of yesterday afternoon. She (the doctor) is unwilling to make a prognosis as to whether there is (or the degree of) any brain damage from lack of oxygen, but he is much improved. He is not sucking, yet, but they are feeding him expressed colostrum (from my cousin) via a nasal feeding tube and she is spending lots of time holding him and trying to get him to latch and nurse.

blessings of healing on this dear little baby and parents. I had a friend with that and doctor found it after the c-sec and was surprised the baby made it too. (he grew up and is now at the AF academy in CO).

Baby G has a name!
Ryder Drew G*****!!!! Dave (his proud papa) just updated that they should all be going home in a day or two! I guess the prognosis is cautiously optimistic...
He weighed 6 lbs. and was 18" long at birth -- a little peanut./>
