Really, Very Brand New

Hi y'all.

I'm Leslie, from Utopia (The Pacific Northwest)

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find those that have wallpaper books they keep intact and use as scrapbooks? I have all sorts and I don't want to waste them doing a bad job. They are huge and I dont know where to start. My goodness but they can be classy. Some come from posh businesses that would never carry anything but the very best so they are intimidating.

And warmest regards to all!

Hi, Leslie! Welcome to Scrap Girls! We're so glad you found us!

I agree that we live in Utopia (except, maybe, when the sun hasn't come out in weeks...)

I don't quite follow what you're asking, so maybe you could explain a little more thoroughly? Do you have an old bound wallpaper sample book, and you want to use the pages as backgrounds for scrapbook layouts? Using digital pages would help keep the bulk down, by only adding one layer of paper.

Hi Leslie! Welcome to Scrap Girls - we are so glad to have you here with us! I've had wallpaper books that I used the paper from for backgrounds and stuff when I was paper scrapping but I'm not quite sure how you are wanting to use them either so not sure what to tell you. I loved using wallpaper in my paper scrapping - you're right - it was some classy stuff!

Someone else will come along soon with some good advice for you.

Hi Leslie and welcome to Scrap Girls!!!

Are you talking about turning your bound wallpaper sample book into a scrapbook? If so, you might find some helpful tips on the Scrap Girls blog, here are some that are specific to Art Journaling: http://scrapgirls.com/blog/category/tutorials/art-journal/

I am not sure how big and thick those sample books are and how easy it would be to use them as scrapbooks. If you can bring yourself to cut the papers out of the books, you could definitely use the pages in Hybrid Scrapbooking projects (lots of great tutorials on the SG Blog) and you could use them to make cards, embellishments, etc.

Welcome Leslie. It sounds as if you may be looking for altered books or something like that. There maybe some info in the paper scrapping threads or journals. We don't want to send you away but are you looking for something like Somerset magazines does in altered art?

Welcome. I am intrigued by your project. Maybe you can post a photo in the gallery once you are done. Sorry I don't have any helpful advice. I'm not familiar with wallpaper books.

Hi Leslie,

Welcome to ScrapGirls!

I'm also unfamiliar with using a bound wallpaper sample book as a scrapbook, so I did a search and found some food for thought. While wallpaper is beautiful, it's not made acid free - like all commercial scrapbook paper - so from a preservation perspective, don't use original photos on it. Also, from an archival perspective, it becomes brittle and yellowed over time, which may render all your hard work a problem for future generations. There was also speculation on whether the samples have adhesive on back, since some wallpaper comes with it and some without - being samples, that was a big question.

One cool idea I saw that didn't so much involve using the bound book as a scrapbook but someone was using the samples to create journal/book covers - presumably with all kinds of fun embellishments.

Many others have mentioned the ScrapGirls blog, I highly recommend checking it out for inspiration for your projects!

Best of luck on your projects!
