ACK! I can't believe how frustrated I am with Adobe. They have now killed the numbered editions; if you want their products, you must pay for a subscription, month-to-month or annual.
For the first year (only) they're providing a discount for folks who had prior versions. After that--full price. The plan is probably ok if you upgraded for every edition, but NOT if you bought a product like CS4, and expect to amortize it over a number of years. They claim customers prefer subscriptions. I dunno....
See http://www.adobe.com/ for details.

yes, and they are incredibly unresponsive to pleas, over and over, both from their customers and their official "proponents" to do things like let the user make tools or especially the triangles for clicking tool extensions LARGER, or to let users customize their toolbox, as Corel Photo-Paint does.
I switched to PS to use styles and actions, but I'm beginning to think I'll use my existing PS CS4 for those, and go back to Corel, or try Serif or Gimp.

Wow. This is very disappointing news. I wonder (and hope) that public reaction will cause Adobe to reconsider this plan. I, for one, will not be paying $19.99/month for the PS plan. Ugh.

This doesn't make me happy either. Glad I've got CS6, it'll last for awhile.

So how does this affect those of us who have several versions of PSE? Not sure I understand. but it's always about money! I was hoping one of these days to get PS. Too expensive, but I don't believe in renting software.

This seams to be happening with a lot of things now. Unfortunately enough people will pay for the subscription that Adobe probably won't change their minds.

This is really annoying to me too - I have been buying CS all along and this does not make me happy. I will not be paying for a subscription either and am just happy that I've upgraded to the latest versions of Creative Suites. It will just have to do!

Being forced to lease, not buy, is not right. For occasional users, the cost is prohibitive. For the time being at least, PhotoShop Elements can still be purchased outright:

I am glad that PSE is still available to purchase but I scares me that it will soon follow the same pattern!
