Help Photoshop Doesn't Work The Same

4 posts in this topic

I recently had to purchase a new computer - this came with Win7 while my previous computer had Win Vista. I reinstalled Photoshop CS5 and things just don't work the same and I don't know where to go to change them back. In a layered document (.psd) I choose layer 1 and if my cursor should stray a bit and end up over another layer (2), then layer 2 becomes the one selected without actually clicking on it. In other words I can't move my selected layer 1 unless my cursor is exactly over that layer. This is a real nuisance if I'm working with a small item as I have to enlarge it to ensure I have the cursor exactly over it, and then reduce it when its moved. I know there are Photoshop gurus out there who know what to do :)/>/>. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I might have figured this out...look at your workspace with a layered document open. Up along the top, just to the right of the current tool you have selected (under the main menu bar, but one icon in) there is a box that says "Auto-select" and then next to that is a drop down box where you can select "Layer" or "Group." Make sure that that box is unchecked. If it is checked, then PS will try to "help" you by selecting the layer it thinks you want.

HTH!

Bless your heart Jennifer! That was exactly the problem. It's funny how such a little thing can cause so much trouble. :2468who-do-we-appreciate:
