notsosavvy
All of a sudden I am having trouble with downloads. I have windows 8.1,updates are current, and use Firefox 27.When I download a file it does not trun out like a zip file should. I just looks like a sheet of paper. There is no option to extract or open with.Don't know what has happened, anyone have any ideas?I have rebooted and checked updates, but nothing helps. My other computer with windows 7,Firefox 27 works fine. BarbaraC1977
Hi. Did you use an independent zip extraction program before, such as Extract Now or WinZip? Or did you use Windows explorer to unzip? The answers are different, depending on how you're used to it. Is the computer relatively new? Did you install your unzip program? By the way, I love Extract Now, HOWEVER, they are including lots of "shovelware" with it. Be sure to de-select options you don't want added when you install. Let us know which program you use normally to unzip, and we'll try to help. Windows 8.1 is not fundamentally the problem.
Brandy M
Sometimes when downloads look like a sheet of paper they are RAR files. Extract Now does unzip them. I was confused the first time I saw that type of file. If you right click on it and look at the prperties you can usually see what kind of file it is. Let us know! April Showers
I get the files that look like that when they are only partially downloaded. The icon changed to the regular zip folder when the download is completed. You could try a different browser. I love firefox, but sometimes its downloads are a little slower than on chrome. notsosavvy
I have extractnow and peazip, but there is no option to use either one. I try to drag and drop but nothing stays in the box.I'm guessing because they are not zip files. Some of the files took 3-5 minutes,so I think that is plenty of time to download, and they were from different sites, I'm sure it is something on my computer,I just don't know what, cauz last week everything worked fine. Thank you all for your input. I'll try another browser
April Showers
When you are downloading, it should tell which type of file it is. If they are RAR files like Brandy mentioned, I use 7-zip to open them.
notsosavvy
Thank you all for your help. Iwent into my scrapbook file and all the zip files have been changed to look like the sheet of paper. Now I think it has more to do with windows 8.Maybe the last update changed something. I wonder if there is a way to go back to an older update ? I'll have to check that out.Other than that, I don't know what would have changed.Does anyone here have windows 8.1 ?
