I have always printed out my LO's, Yesterday I printed out a 12x12 resized to 8x8,,,,it printed as 8 1/4x81/4 ????? My 4x6 calendar pages are 1/8 of an inch bigger too....any idea why this would be? I use PSE8........should I Resize to 7.75x7.75????

Good grief! Does it have anything to do with the "borderless" option in your printer settings? Maybe if you have it on "not" borderless, it will print a little bigger to make a border.

I do that as well -- make layout as 12x12 and print out in 8x8, however I usually tell the printer to print it out as 7.9 x 7.9 because it fits the album better.

I can't imagine why this would happen, but you might want to check the setting you put in your printer's print menu.

I don't know, either. I always print my own 12x12 or resized to 8x8, but not borderless - I'm printing on letter size paper. Sometimes my mouse skitters as I enter the dimensions, but I can always see the distortion in the preview before selecting print. All I can suggest is to carefully recheck all the printer settings, and make a draft print on plain paper to check the results. Hope someone else can shed a bit more light on the problem.

actually when I set it up to print the LO was weird and there was an area that was not on the preview,,,,,,I right click on the JPEG 8x8 version I save and then click on print......I have it on Borders and Portrait...is that what you use?

I've found the easiest way for me to print 8x8 pages from 12x12 layouts is to do them in a Word document from the full-res jpg file. I set the page side margins at 1/4" and the top margin at 1.5". Then use the insert>photo from the menu bar at the top of the screen. It imports the photo and re-sizes it automatically.

When I try to print through PSE right from the .psd file I'm always getting something I don't expect. (I know, user error...)

OK.....I tried a different method.....instead of using the windows option, I went into PSE and opened my 8x8 copy and clicked Print....made sure all the settings were what I wanted and it is perfect....Go figure. I have always just right clicked on the LO and then print.....with Borders. now that seems to stretch it out and cuts off some of the top and bottom even tho there are Borders. Just printed another LO and the color was crap all the others were right on......... :glare: What do all of you do for your printed LO's....8x8....do you have them done somewhere online? do yourself? I have always done myself and they have been perfect.....so much for a new better printer....I have an Epson Artison 730

Printing from Windows Print Wizard doesn't let you select exact print size. Instead you can choose "Full Page" or "8x10". The first will expand the JPG to the full 8.5 width of the paper, the second will scale the JPG to 8". However, if you check "fit picture to frame", Windows will crop your square to the shape of the paper (rectangle).

So make sure you uncheck "fit picture..." and choose "8x10". You DO NOT need to create a special 8x8 version. Your 12x12 version will automatically be scaled to 8" per side.

Alternatively, print from PSE and make sure the image size is 8x8.

I just make the pages 8x8 in the first place. I found that shrinking the 12x12's made the font too small. Also, I print mine at Staples. I priced it out once and it was WAY less expensive than printing at home. Not to mention, if I'm not happy they'll print them again. The one by my house has fantastic customer service.

Thanks for this info too.......I guess there is really no reason to have a 12x12 if I am not going to ever use it at that size is there....is it easier to create at 12x12.......I have thought about the journaling and font size too....Good to know....Thank you Nica

I'm glad you solved the problem, Carol. I forgot to mention that I always print from within PSE, as Linda mentioned; it gives me much greater control over the output. As for choosing 12x12 or 8x8 to begin, it depends on your purpose. I'm making pages for my DD and grand kids, and they have albums of both sizes. If I need a print for them, and one for me at 8x8, it just makes sense to start with 12x12. I always print a first copy using the draft quality, on letter size plain paper, both to check the readability of the text, and to preserve a copy of the layout with the notes about products and techniques that I used. It's an extra step, but I've found it very useful.
