I was a paper scrapper for 10 years and when I started Digi I wanted my LO's to look as close to 3D paper as possible.....I think I still do this so I guess that is my "Style" I do want to try new techniques but don't often succeed....yet anyway. Truthfully, I seem to go through phases but I do know that my "typical" scrapping page seems to involve blended backgrounds and soft edges. As Jode says, you'll rarely see me use a frame or template. Then again... Occasionally I do! Like you I was a paper scrapper, but I find myself not wanting my pages to look like paper ones, that's why I do digital and I like the special effects we can do here. Oh and I giggle at things like torn or wrinkled digital pages, saying I wouldn't use them in a regular page, so why would I here! Trying new techniques is hard for me, too. But, I have found that when I finally do - I usually end up using it over and over for a while until I learn the next something new! That was my mode when I did paper scrapping, as well as when I taped things in "scrapbooks" as a teen. I rarely do a LO using only one photo, I really like to commemorate an event instead. I really don't think I have any particular scrapping style - I just like to play around with all kinds of techniques. It's all fun and I always enjoy learning new things. I haven't done the "Art" type LO's which is maybe strange because I have painted for years....just not on a LO tho. The idea of doing an art journal is always lurking in the back of my mind,,,,maybe some day.......I do like to do LO's with only one photo tho since I am not "Using up" all those supplies on only one photo. Belle Posted March 19, 2014 Share Posted March 19, 2014 When I start a layout from scratch all on my own, it could take me days. I always start with a template and then work from there. The template usually changes quite a bit but it just goes much quicker for me. I do not have an original thought in my brain. The challenges do help though. jenrou Posted March 19, 2014 Share Posted March 19, 2014 Since my children are grown, I don't have a lot of recent photos to scrap so I usually do a one-photo page. I especially like Heritage or family pages where I tell a story. I like muted colors usually, with some grunged edges. I've painted most of my life so that training often helps me decide on placement or colors. I love learning new techniques but seldom use very many on my pages. I like blendy/artsy layouts on occasion, but mostly, I'm more of a traditional scrapper. Creased paper yes! "Really" wrinkled, not so much. I especially like working with color, so I quite often do the color challenges. I guess if I have a style, it would be having fun with my layouts. I love trying out different styles and learning new techniques. I'm fortunate that I'm also able to share some of what I know with others, too. However, when I make a photo book for our family, the pages usually have several photos and almost no embellishment. You mentioned using templates, they are a great kick start but I would disagree, the end result is a piece of you. I use to think for a long time I didn't have a style. I am not a traditional scrapper and never experienced paper scrapping. I think that recognizing your style is journey about self discovery. These days I can see a clean minimal style to my layouts. I understand what you are saying AggieB, I use to design tourist maps, while not the same as your professional map making, it was fun and has influenced my style. We have seasons or phases where we try new things and I find that even trying new styles my results come out through 'my filter'. I find that replicating a particular style takes more effort as I have to refrain from doing what would come naturally.
