Midwest Meetup Fall 2014

Recommended Posts

Hmmmm, I don't know why I am not getting notices to any of the threads I'm following?

That is a great tip! So far it's the same using the private mode but $400.00 really isn't that bad. Cheri, funny you should mention the 30-45 mark because Eric says it way to early and thinks I should wait until then to buy my ticket. Now I just might after seeing it worked for you.

I'm going to wait to get my ticket, too. Another travel softball team has popped up, one from the league Lauren plays in, and I'll have to see what the schedule will look like this fall if she makes it. It shouldn't effect my travel plans, but just throwing it out there now.

Seriously thinking about the FB idea Cheri brought up!

Cindy, you ask a good question. I believe some do, but not sure who all is committed and who has / needs a roomie. Speak up of you're looking for a room mate - I'm sure SG's can self-organize around this, just wanted to get the ball rolling. :)

Carla, going the incognito route on FB could work!

It's looking more and more like I'll be in Moline, IL at least through the end of October. So how does this carpooling thing usually work? Who would be the nearest person for me to drive to? I can leave after work on Wednesday, get a hotel and be ready to go Thursday morning. What say you O mid-west wise ones?

Unless there is a more direct route for you from Moline to meet up with us in the Kansas City area to carpool on from there, you and I could potentially meet in Des Moines at my father-in-law's home and carpool from there together to meet up with Angie and Conda near Kansas City. Oooooh, I love having somebody to chat with along the way!!!! :)

When is that meetup again?!?! I need some girl time!

Cheri, it looks like the *most* direct route is from Moline directly south to STL. But that's not the point! I need some girl time too (I work with a bunch of guys and in October, I'll be on my own at the client's site.) And I want to get the party started since I have the opportunity.

I see there's a Fairfield in in Ames and a Hertz at the airport nearby. If we could meet at the Hertz, I can turn in my car and pick up another on the way back. Of course, I have no idea how far the Ames airport is from you. I would have said meet at the Fairfield, but they don't have a shuttle so I can keep my car overnight (cheaper than the cab quoted) and turn it in Thursday morning.

Unless it would be better to meet at your FIL's house. If I can avoid paying for a rental car while I'm not using it, I'd like to.

Ideas?

Let's get the party started - I like the way you think! LOL :)

Everything in Ames is within 15 minutes (unless it's before or after a football or basketball game, then factor in an extra hour;) so I can meet you at the Hertz for sure and go on from there.

Sounds like a plan!

Since I'm new to this site and live in St Louis, this Midwest Fall Meetup intrigues me. I would love to meet some fellow scrappers. What do you do all day? It sounds like you have a lot of fun. Fun is my middle name. (Not really). How many attended the last time you met?

It's similar to a traditional crop, but instead of giant suitcases of paper and tools, we bring our PCs, mice, and Bamboo tablets. Just like a crop, some people scrap a lot and some scrap a little. Everyone enjoys the company of fellow SG's. Sometimes people share shortcuts or techniques. We talk and laugh (a lot!). Usually our local gals plan a photo walk in a cool place like down town, local zoo, botanical garden, whatever is around.

I hope you decide to join us!

I'm asking for time off and want to make sure I have the correct dates. Are the first girls coming in on the 23rd of October?

Karen

If we northern girls arrive from Angie's house at about the same time as usual, we'll be there at 5ish on the 23rd.

Teachinglaffs, I hope it works out for you to come! It's always fun meeting Scrap Girls:)

So I think I am going to try and come no matter what the cost. So far the fares have just gone up. Right now flights are around $400.00. Before I book does anyone have suggestions on where to search for a better rate?

Adding to the peer pressure....I hope you decide to go on Facebook, Carla! If you don't like it you can always leave. :)

Yayyy I want to see Cindy again!!

One tip I've heard about checking airfare online (but haven't tested it yet).... open your web browser in Private/Incognito mode. Then do all your airline searching through that. Apparently with the use of cookies, airlines can tell that you frequently visit to check prices, and the prices won't drop as low.... but if you always search in private mode, they always think you are a new viewer, and you might snag a better deal.

This is what I'm asking about ... how do you set your browser to private mode?

Thanks gals! This really does make a difference. Prior to finding out the private mode, I did a ticket search for St Louis and Orbitz offered me the same ticket price we paid to go to Dallas in July! Then I tried in Firefox incognito just minutes later and there was a difference of $29. Not significant, but it would pay for a meal or two while in STL!! Thanks for the info on IE, Michele ... I tried it as well this morning and found it to be down $46!! I had heard (maybe from our expert traveler, Michele) that ticket prices are usually at their lowest 45 days prior to departing. Is this still correct?
