Joey
I have a photo in a mask. A lot of the black mask is showing. I have tried resizing both mask and photo but cannot get a pleasing effect. I have tried changing the mask to overlay but that also effects the photo and I want the photo to stay sharp. I believe that there is a way to color the mask so that it will not contrast so much with the paper, but I have not been able to do it. Is this just wishful thinking on my part? teecee
Hi Joey, You may want to try this: change your foreground color chip to the color you want the mask to be. Then go to Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Hue/Saturation (shortcut Ctrl+U). When the Hue/Saturation box opens, click the Colorize box and adjust the saturation and lightness sliders. You could also paint the mask: change your foreground color chip to the color you want the mask to be. Then Ctrl + click on the mask thumbnail in the layers panel to put marching ants around the mask, and get the brush tool, be sure the mask layer is active, and brush over the the mask. Ctrl+D to deselect the marching ants. Note: I'm using PSE Let us know if this helps.
Joey
Thank you for the suggestions. I had the photo mask layer active, but nothing happened at all when I adjusted sliders. Clicking on the mask thumbnail did not give me marching ants and just brushing on mask layer left a solid color and no mask edges. Definitely doing something wrong. Oh yeah, I am in PSE12. teecee
First, did you change your foreground color chip to the color you want the mask to be? Then, when the hue/saturation box opened, did you check the colorize box before adjusting the sliders? You probably have to play with both the saturation and lightness sliders to obtain the color you want. For the second method, try holding the ctrl key down when you click the thumbnail image of the mask - that should put marching ants around it. (I edited my first post)
Joey
Thank you! The marching ants showed up and I painted. Never could get the slider to work. I have used that option before and it worked, so don't know what I'm doing wrong. The painted worked so I'm a happy scrapper!
Cheri T
I'm glad it worked! Hooray for Teecee and her helpful instructions:)

Sorry the hue/saturation method isn't working for you, but happy to hear the painting works.
GrannieEv
I'm just wondering here ...why not grab a color with the dropper and use the paint bucket and then play with those results?

Yep, you can do it that way too. Hue/Saturation is just my preferred method - I like to play with the sliders
GrannieEv
I'll have to give your way a try ... if I remember what you said LOL
BarbaraC1977
Another suggestion is Clip a colored paper to the Mask, and then clip the photo to the colored paper layer. Works great, and you can add a pattern to the mask. i couldn't find the example where I did both, but here's an example of the colored paper clipped to the mask, at least. http://scrapgirls.net/forum/gallery/image/133719-lupine-poppies/

BarbaraC1977
I knew I had an example. I did this for a tutorial, that I think I never submitted for publication. (silly me.) There are multiple masks here, and paper layers. Enjoy!
