I uninstalled my PSE 8 and reinstalled it after having problems with it closing on me

am trying to figure out how to reinstall my Styles other than the ones that come with the program

......I followed the path in the SS Handbook but Doc and Settings is locked....will not open

I followed the path to install from the past and the ones I had had installed are in there.....any ideas?

Carol, did you remember to remove the "MediaDatabase.db3" after you added the styles so that PSE can rebuild?

I added a new yesterday and my PSE6 worked fine. Then suddenly today it was crashing before even opening.

I finally decided to try removing the MediaDatabase.db3 AGAIN..... And, I knew I had done it before because the new style was there and I even had used it.....

So, I removed it yet again right now.

And, it WORKED! :) PSE took a while to open as it rebuilt... But it DID open.... And everything is there and so far seems fine, SHHHhhhhhhhh...

Makes no sense, but worth a try... :)

Let us know how you make out - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

OK....followed the path ......

When I clicked on Program Files....... No Adobe

so I went to this one

Program Files (x86)

Adobe

PSE 8.0

Locale

en_us

There was no Thumb DB....just these three things

Applications_swfs

Plug-ins

Support Files

So I began with

Program Data

Adobe

PSE

8.0

Locale

En_us

But there was no Thumb Database

there was a Media Data Base........is that the one I delete???

Hi Carol,

First be sure PSE in closed.

You want to go to the second one you listed:

Program Data> Adobe>Photoshop Elements>8.0>Locale>en_us>MediaDatabase.db3 and delete that MediaDatabase.db3 file (this file is for your actual asl files (styles)

Then go back two steps to

Program Data>Adobe>Photshop Elements>8.0>ThumbDatabase.db3 and delete that ThumbDatabase.db3 file (this file is for your png files - the images that show in your styles menu)

(Don't worry, those files will come back after you rebuild the database.)

After you've deleted the two files, re-start PSE and give it time to rebuild. Don't do anything on the computer while it's rebuilding the database. Just walk away and leave it for a while. When I had PSE 9, mine used to take up to 20+ minutes to rebuild. When it's finished rebuilding, you should see your styles and their images in the effects menu. HTH

Don't know if you'll need these, but here a couple of screenshots for you. Click to enlarge.

I'm so sorry, Carol - I don't have any idea what might be causing the problem. :(

Maybe your only option is to uninstall and reinstall PSE? I don't know :dunno:

Good luck!
