Hi Carol,

I'm not sure for PSE 13, but in version 9 you would need to delete the mediadatabase.db3 and thumbdatabase.db3 files, and allow the database to rebuild. Don't be afraid to delete these files - they will come back when the database rebuilds.

Be sure to close PSE.

For Vista and Windows 7 the path for the mediadatabase.db3 is:

C:>ProgramData>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>Your Version>Locale>en_us>MediaDatabase.db3

After deleting that file, you need to delete the thumbdatabase.db3 file:

C:>ProgramData>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>Your Version>ThumbDatabase.db3

After you've deleted both of these files, restart PSE and don't do anything at all in it, just let it rebuild the database which may take up to about 30 minutes.

I have heard that you should not touch Elements or even do anything on your computer until the process has finished. If you see a progress message on the screen, wait for it to disappear, even if Elements tells you it isn't responding, don't do anything - just let Elements do its own thing. It will respond eventually.

After it has finished rebuilding, you should see your styles in your styles panel.

I'm not sure if these instructions will work in PSE 13, or if the paths are the same, but maybe it will help...

Good luck! :)

I don't have ACU Splashed, but the marketing image shows 9. Syndee's Shadow Me has 21 grey and 21 brown.

Have you tried to re-load any of your SG styles?

Hmmm, After you delete a style set from the panel, when you go back to re-load the styles are you selecting Load Styles from the drop down menu, then navigating to the ASL file you want, selecting it and clicking Load?

I think the little square box with a line through it is nothing. I have a few of those too. There was a time when I had read about it, but I can't remember exactly why they show up...

Okie dokie - it sounds like you are loading them correctly - I can't figure out why/how you lost so many. You should be able to continue to re-load the SG styles that you lost. If you aren't sure about how many are in a set, you can check the marketing image.

As far as the PSE shadow styles and any other PSE styles that you lost, I'm not sure, but I think you may have to contact Adobe about how to get them back. Maybe someone else who knows for sure will come along...

Hope you get them all back into place... :)

Theresa is on the money with her advice. I've got PSE 12 and I load styles by copying them into Program Data or Program Files (can't remember which but it's where all the other .abr files live). I do this if there are multiple files to upload. You have to re-start PSE before you'll see them.

The other way is the way Theresa described with PSE open and using the drop down box at the upper right corner when you have your Effects tray open.

I haven't had to rebuild the metadata since I left PSE 9. I hope you can work it out; I can feel your frustration! Hang in there!

Oops, I mean .asl files.
