How Many Photos Do You Take?

OK, I'm running into a problem.
I'm looking at my photos that I took from one of our vacations that I want to make a scrapbook for (hybrid type).
I have close to 1,000 photos.
Obviously, I'm not going to use ALL of them and I'm working on just ditching the totally bad ones (out of focus, oppies, etc), but even with that, I'm going to have a TON of photos.

What do you do when you have a LOT of photos?

How do you decide what to put in/on your page?

This then leads me to my next question, have you noticed that you take fewer photos now based on how you might use them in a scrapbook?

I pick my favorites. I may keep photos that are similar, but I rarely scrap them all.

When I'm choosing photos, I think about the story I'm telling with my page(s). If the photo contributes to the story (and doesn't say the same thing as every other photo), I'll include it. I want the page to be interesting, but not overwhelming.

I've found that I don't take fewer photos, I probably take more, but I do try to get photos with different angles and some extra details to help make a more interesting page.

I tend to take near that number of photos from our holiday as well. In the past I would scrap them using templates with a large number of photo spots. I would use one double page spread for each event/activity from our holiday. I have been contemplating pocket life but I'm not sure it would work for 15 plus photos for each event.

Outside of holidays I don't take quite as many photos.

I definitely take more photos now that I'm digital. Plus the kids are older. I just take the photos that I love the most and scrap those, but I keep the rest. I'll delete the bad photos, or if I have multiple of the same ones. Isn't digital wonderful?

Tons and tons! I do need to weed some out, that's on my summer list of things to do. I am starting to do Pocket Life style layouts when I have lots of photos of one event, then save the really special pictures to highlight on a more elaborate layout.

LOVE digital photography!
It has resulted in me taking WAY more photos; which makes it very important to get organized with them and come up with some way to be able to share them; or even to be able to go back and look at them myself with my husband. My family loves to pull out the old photos and pass them around. We reminisce and share memories with each other over all the old photos. This is something that just doesn't happen with all my newer photos just sitting on my computer. Which is something I'd like to change. I'm thinking a digital picture frame might work for this.
I found that I did post my favorite 5-7 photos (out of ALL the photos that I took that day) each evening of our last vacation on facebook with comments about each. I kind of used it like a nightly journal of what we did that day.
A couple of you mentioned a Pocket Life or something like that. What is that?

Digital allows us to take so many photos it's almost rediculous....almost. I use the very best and try to make them tell a story or be significant.

Make digital pages then put in a folder. Then plug into your TV and watch a slideshow.

Good luck

We've done the tv viewing and that worked well. Have to remember that.

Since I never did paper scrapping, all of this is new to me, so I don't really know what I'm doing. For example, this whole idea of telling a story with the photos is something I hadn't thought of. Go figure. I've been approaching this whole thing as a place to dump my photos just like a photo album. I need to get my head around the story concept. This has just blown my mind. Seriously!
