Dragging Papers, Etc In Pse 13

Using a Mac ...I've just upgraded from PSE 10 to 13 (and to Yosemite from Mountain Lion) - too much to learn all at once!

In PSE 10, I could start a new page, and open a paper or other product; it would appear in the dock, and I could drag it onto the new page.

In PSE 13 a newly opened paper appears as a new document (I think) - it's in a new heading to the right of the opened LO page. I cannot drag one onto the other. The only way I've been able to add the paper to the LO is to copy it and then paste it in the LO. It works, but it's cumbersome.

I can't find any information in the PSE help files or the "Missing Manual" for PSE 13. Haven't tried to contact Adobe yet - I'm guessing someone in Scrap Girls will have an answer faster, and maybe clearer. Thanks for any information you can provide!

Gosh, Jo - I know what you mean. I just upgraded from PSE 6 to 13, and from Lion to Yosemite and I am lost too!

I just now put PSE13 on the computer, I'm going to check what you said and see what it looks like.
If I don't come back, send out a search party. :D

HI Jo

I dropped a background and an embellishment into PSE 13 and I think I see what you mean. You can only see one element in the workspace at a time, but their names are in tabs at the top? So I can switch back and forth but not see both documents at the same time in my workspace, is that what you mean?

I couldn't seem to drag the embellishment onto the background since I can only see one at a time, but I was able to drag it from the project bin at bottom to the paper showing in the workspace at top.

I'm not sure that's how it's supposed to be done, this is my first look into the program!

Is that what you mean? (Sorta like the blind leading the blind here) :D

Hi Jo, I think it might be to do with preferences... I was trying to help Marilyn the other day so I know your preference file is in a different spot to 12....

I THINK it might be the little cog wheel above the layers panel??

Wherever it is, try changing the setting under general for allowing free floating windows and see if that helps?? I know it works for me in 12...

Fingers crossed for you!!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I thought I posted a thank you note earlier today, but it seems to be missing. However, the photo bin (which used to be the project bin), and activating floating windows solved the problems. And the video was helpful, Anne-Marie. I'm still struggling with differences in the new version, but so far the Missing Manual has been able to steer me in the right direction - once I figure out what to look for; names have changed, of course.

HI Jo,

How did you change to floating windows? When I go to Window>Images

only "Tiles" can be clicked and I guess is because every other option (including "Float All in Windows" and "Float All Windows" is grayed out.

I can't figure out how or where to change anything.

I"m going to watch Anne Marie's video, next.
