Today's newsletter focused on a new trend in digital scrapbooking: Stacked Text. The layout artists did a wonderful job showing us some examples of this new trend and giving us some tips on how to incorporate it into our layouts. Your challenge today is to use the tips from our layout artists to create a stacked text title on your layout. Once you have finished your layout post it in the Newsletter Challenge Gallery so we can leave you some love!

Some tips from the newsletter:

April: For this challenge, I created a stacked text block next to the photo of my nephew and his new bride. I typed each line separately and adjusted the fonts and font sizes to give the words the desired visual weight. I changed the tracking as needed to make all the lines of text the same length. Next, I aligned the vertical centers of the text layers using the alignment tools. To do this, select all the text layers you would like to align, then choose Layer> Align> Horizontal Centers. To finish off my stacked text, I added a gesso paint layer between the text block and the background layers to make it easier to read the words.

Andrea: Typography and fonts are my first love when designing pages. In fact, I am just a font-a-holic! I draw a square or rectangle on my layout to represent where I want the text block to be and then build my text to fit. (I delete the box once I have added all the text.) In this layout, I felt inspired to mix the fonts because they evoked the feeling I wanted to express. This method is perfect for creating titles with more than one or two words. Look through your dingbats to find swooshes and swirls to add between your text to build interest and to separate your words. My go-to font for dingbats is Bergamot Ornaments.

Sue: I chose Stories We Tell Alpha Mini by Syndee Nuckles to make the word BIRTHDAY for this page. To turn the word into stacked text, I created a rectangular shape to use for each letter to make them uniform in size. I clipped each letter onto the shape and adjusted the size of the letter to fit. Then it was like a puzzle, moving the letters around until I liked the arrangement. The result was a fun, whimsical title!

My layout: Birthday Breakfast

To get my Stacked Text to align I put each of the letters on the line I wanted them. Holding down my shift key I clicked on each letter I wanted to align and then used the "Align" tools at the top of my screen (PS CC). I aligned the tops of the B-I-R, and bottoms of the D-A-Y. I also left aligned the B-T-D and right aligned the R-H-Y. I had a large space on the second row between the T and H so I used a brad to fill it in.

Ha, I used the align tools too, but it was easier to explain the other way. :D

And here is my page Two Hearts.
