Eden
Hi All I've just downloaded a free Lightroom trial and considering phasing out using Picasa. At the same time I'm looking at moving to PhotoShop CC. There are two issues I'm trying to work through. The first is I can't find a function similar to the photo bin in PS CC. If there isn't such a thing, I think I could use Picasa or LR. No problems. However, anyone does know if PS CC has a photo bin or a way to replicate that, please let me know. The second is that I can't find a function in LR similar to Picasa's colour search I use this function alot and would be a bit lost without it. I know Lightroom is the beesknees for enhancing photos, but I was wondering if it has a colour search tool that is similar to Picasa. Help! Thanks everyone. Westina
Hi Eden - no photo bin in Photoshop CC. On my Windows machine, I hover my mouse over the Windows taskbar and various files I have open in PS appear for selection. I'm not aware of a Lightroom color search capability. It does have facial recognition. I still use Picasa for the color search function, even though I have photos cataloged in LR. Tina
Eden
Thanks Tina I found that LR does a quite respectable search for colours by typing the word "red", yellow" in the text and selecting any "field". Course, it would be enhanced if I tagged each item but I'm not sure I could be bothered. I suppose with LR, I could create a quick collection for each product I use in a layout. Not sure if that is helpful but I'll give it a go. Maybe by the time 30 days is up I'll be quite used to the idea of not having a bin. Westina
I tested out the LR color search on one of my scrapbook folders with just over 1000 images. Looking at all the "yellow" elements, I manually counted about 37 that I would consider matching that color. Searching with LR, it found 3 items when I searched all fields and those 3 had the word "yellow" as part of the file name. Using the Picasa color match search, it turned up 13 items, but interestingly none of the matches had the word yellow in the file name. And, the results were items more green color than yellow. Pretty interesting.
April Showers
Try opening the Mini-Bridge (File>Browse in Mini Bridge) and it is similar to the bin. I only use LR for my photos, not for my supplies. The other thing to know is that LR's default is 16 bit ProPhoto RGB while PS default is 8 bit sRGB. The ProPhoto RGB doesn't display well in the gallery.
Westina
Mini Bridge was removed from Photoshop CC with the last release. You can run the full version of Bridge and just minimize it to share part of the screen with Photoshop.
