Black backgrounds

So many elements now have a black background, and some are hard to see what they really are. Is there any way to delete the background and have it white again? I know this is a petty thing,or can someone tell me why they have suddenly began appearing as black?

I don't have an answer about why, but it seems to be a windows thing on my computer. Some of the PNG previews are black instead of showing transparency properly. Have you tried to refresh your thumbnails? Right-click anywhere on the File Explorer window (not on a file) and choose Refresh, or hit F5. That may help...

I'm glad to know that it's just not me. I'll have to give this a try.

Yep! It's a windows 10 thing. And not all the thumbnails have that black background. I have 'preview pane' selected under 'View' and when I click on the thumbnail with the black background, in the preview pane the black disappears.

Thanks to all for the ideas. None worked for me. I did not think about it being something windows does. Really don't like the way windows 10 takes over changing things for me. The only way I can get the black gone is to copy and change the name and save.

I went to post feedback about Windows 10 photo viewer, and wow, so many others have complained about the black background.

I've found some articles on changing the background color from black to something lighter via the registry, but so far, they only work with older versions of Windows (7 & 8, 8.1.) If I find a solution, I will post it here.

Meantime, I went into Picasa, clicked Tools, Configure Photo Viewer, and set it as the default program to open PNG files (which includes all masks, alphas, and embellishments.) This works. However, when I try to make it the default for JPG files, I haven't been able to make this setting "stick." Something in Windows registry overrides it.

However, if you open a PNG file in Picasa Photo Viewer, you can scan through all images in a folder with it, including JPGs.

Will let you know if I find more ways to modify the systems in Windows 10. I like most of Win 10; this is probably my only real gripe.

I sure hope you find an answer Barbara. I don't really like Windows 10. Ever since I've upgraded I've had issues with our printer, my camera, and itunes. I'm sure it's due to my laptop but I've had driver issues. I was able to fix some but windows says there isn't one for our printer. Supposedly one was downloaded for my camera but it doesn't work. With itunes I tried to update it but I kept getting error issues. I thought I had to delete it and reinstall it. Well that didn't work, although it appears that I'm not the only one with that problem. It just stinks because I never had any issues with any of this before I upgraded to to 10.
